Andy Kaufman will be immortalized in the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame class on March 31 in Hollywood.
WWE confirmed today that Kaufman would be inducted into the Hall of Fame. It was first reported by Variety. As of this writing, it is not yet clear who will be inducting Kaufman into the WWE Hall of Fame, but Jerry "The King" Lawler would be a great person to do the honor.
Kaufman is best known to wrestling fans for his rivalry in the 1980s with Lawler, where they showed the celebrity crossover involvement in wrestling could work before Vince McMahon did it with the main event of the first-ever WrestleMania by using Mr. T.
Kaufman regularly appeared on Memphis television, where he would wrestle women and coined himself as the "Intergender Champion,” causing heat with fans in addition to him saying local fans were beneath him because he was from Hollywood as an actor.
Most fans will recall when Kaufman and Lawler appeared on the David Letterman show in 1982, where Kaufman was slapped by the legendary wrestler, leading to Kaufman going on a tirade.
Additional confirmed members of the class include Rey Mysterio and the Great Muta.
