This week’s episode of WWE NXT featured a singles match with Ilja Dragunov and JD McDonagh that had high expectations among fans.
Before they could wrestle, North American Champion Wes Lee came out for a promo where he talked about being a proud champion and noting that he rolls the dice every time he defends the title. He wants to defend the title in a fatal 5-way match at Stand & Deliver, leading to Dragon Lee coming out to tell him that he wants to face the best in NXT and thinks it should start with Lee for the title.
He wants to be part of the chaos in the match and Lee accepts him in the match. McDonaugh walked out where he talked down to them and also pitched for him to be added to the match. Dragunov walked out, leading to the singles match that was a hard-hitting bout.
It ended when they brawled into Lee, who was sitting ringside. Once Lee got up, McDonaugh accidentally punched him and Dragunov headbutted Lee. This led to the no-contest ruling by the referee and Lee hitting an outside dive. Later in the show, they brawled back into the ringside area.
In a backstage promo segment, Lee was talking to Axiom when he threw out the idea of a battle royal taking place next week to determine the fifth spot in the title match
As seen below, both Dragunov and McDonaugh suffered some nasty-looking bruises coming out of the match.
