WWE is making sure that the locations of their upcoming Premium Live Events will all have some significance to the promotion or product.
WWE has made some interesting selections for locations for PLEs in 2023, including Montreal hosting the Elimination Chamber event.
The February Premium Live Event marked the first PLE for Montreal since Breaking Point 2009.
It was in 2021 that WWE began shifting their most significant PLEs from arenas to Stadiums and more changes to the process have been made.
Fightful Select reports that WWE is putting "extra care" into the selection of PLE locations, in stark contrast to its approach in 2022.
The promotion's reasoning is that they want each event "to have a distinct purpose, whether that be thematic, financial, or strategic."
For Elimination Chamber, the choice for Montreal happened after WWE had decided that hometown hero Sami Zayn was going to headline, which Fightful called a "thematic" decision.
For WWE Backlash (which will take place in Puerto Rico) the decision was made so that Bad Bunny would make sense as the host of the show.
The inclusion of the Grammy-award-winning artist will also spark significant interest in the event according to WWE sources.
In July, WWE Money in the Bank will take place in London, which is a 'strategic' choice by the promotion.
The belief is that WWE choosing London, close to when the promotion will be renegotiating their UK broadcasting rights, will help with these discussions.
Compared to other wrestling promotions, WWE has many Premium Live Events, and a lot of fans feel there are too many.
Some believe that having so many events means that the events have lost significance other than the Big 5.
Speaking to Fightful, a "higher-up" in WWE suggested fewer events, saying that WWE is "about spacing out PLEs so the demand builds in market."
WWE's next big PLE will be WrestleMania 39 next weekend, which comes at a time when Vince McMahon is looking to find a new owner for the promotion.
