After months of build, WWE has set a date for the long-awaited Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio match, as it will take place on night one of WrestleMania 39 this Saturday.
WWE has been building to it for months after Dominick turned on his father last September and joined The Judgment Day, cementing his heel turn with the dark group. Since then, he has spoken down to his father and talked badly about his mother on a recent episode of SmackDown, leading to Rey snapping and agreeing to fight this son.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the match “is not a one and done,” which leads to a few different ways the finish could go, whether that be Dominik winning or losing only to lay out his father to keep it going.
The feud is designed to make Dominick a star, and that’s the goal of the match. Dominik is the -170 favorite to win the match.
Meltzer also noted that Dominick has impressed many in WWE, including Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
“Everyone has been impressed with Dominik Mysterio and it’s pretty much universally acknowledged that Rey vs. Dominik is the hottest thing in the company aside from the Bloodline stuff. Levesque is very high on Dominik and his future past this angle and there are long-term plans for him as a star.”
This match will happen one night after Rey is inducted into the 2023 Hall of Fame.
