Fandango, who now wrestles as Dirty Dango for Impact Wrestling, had a long run in WWE, where he started with a serious dancer gimmick only to become a comedy figure.
WWE first signed Fandango in 2006 where he was in developmental for a few years before he became Johnny Curtis on the NXT brand for a few years. In 2013, he was given the Fandango character who did some ballroom dance routines before competing in matches on the main roster.
He most notably scored a win over Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 29 and got over with fans the next night on Raw as they sang his theme song.
He was moved down the card before teaming with Tyler Breeze, known as Breezango, in 2016 where they teamed together for several years including a run as the NXT Tag Team Champions.
In 2016, the two WWE stars started doing the “Fashion Files” segments where they would mock the styles of people in WWE and dress up. They later became the “Fashion Police.” It started out as a social media thing before taking it to television.
Fandango on Vince McMahon’s Reaction
In an interview with WrestlingNewsCo, Fandango noted that Vince McMahon wasn’t a fan of them. After getting some buzz on social media with the segments, someone thought they should do it on television.
“From day one to the last day we did it, Vince did not laugh once. He did not understand any of the jokes. He didn’t get any of the pop culture, like any of the movies, he did not understand it. He didn’t like it, but he knew the fans liked it so he kept it on his show. He didn’t understand any of it.”
“There would be people in Gorilla watching the segment and everyone would pop while the segment was airing and Vince would just, I guess this is what they would tell us, Vince would just look around. The dry sense of humor just wasn’t his thing, which if you’re a 70-something-year-old guy, you’re probably not getting Twin Peaks jokes. It’s understandable. It’s nothing against him, but he didn’t like it at all, but he knew that some people did.”
