The reasons for WWE changing the name of their upcoming Saudi Arabia Premium Live Event will become apparent soon enough, it has been claimed.
Earlier this year, WWE announced that 'King and Queen of the Ring' would take place on May 27, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The show would have been the first King of the Ring event since 2002 and the second time a female monarch was crowned (after 2021's Queen's Crown Tournament.)
Earlier this month, WWE announced that the show's name has been changed to WWE Night of Champions.
WWE has offered no official explanation behind the name change to the confusion of fans.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that a "booking decision" was the reason behind the change.
Sources within WWE told WON that the reason for the name change "will become obvious" after WWE Backlash 2023.
WWE Backlash will take place on May 6, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and will be the promotion's first PLE in the area since January 2005's New Year's Revolution show.
While this 'obvious' reason has yet to be revealed by WWE, many believe the name change is down to one man: Roman Reigns.
The reigning, defending Undisputed WWE Universal Champion has dominated the promotion for close to three years with the gold.
WWE Night of Champions will mark day 1,000 of Reigns' tenure as Universal Champion, and many believe the show will be focused on his accolade.
There has been no word yet on what the name change means for the fate of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments.
