WWE legend Goldberg's recent run with the company may not be every fan’s cup of tea, but it appears that at least he made a lot of money.
According to reports, the Hall of Famer was paid a whopping $2 million per match in Saudi Arabia when he was signed to WWE.
Goldberg's most recent match with the company was against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in 2022 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He has become a free agent since then, and there has been a lot of talk about his retirement from professional wrestling. However, the wrestler stated that he wants to do a short retirement tour first before hanging up his boots for good.
Dave Meltzer discussed this in his Wrestling Observer Newsletter, stating that AEW owner Tony Khan might love to feature Goldberg in some fashion. However, his $2 million fee for each of his Saudi Arabia matches won’t be cost-effective for AEW.
"A self-done tour sounds great but between the costs of doing it right and the lack of visibility if it’s not in WWE or AEW, it would end up being a disappointment," said Meltzer. "My gut is that Tony Khan would love to do it, although the Sting retirement has to be his priority for this year."
Khan has publicly expressed interest in working with Goldberg, and the former WWE & WCW Champion would be another big attraction to help sell tickets for the Wembley Stadium show this summer. That said, it remains to be seen if anybody except the Saudi Arabian government would be willing to pay anywhere close to his asking price.
Goldberg has talked about the fact that he was promised a retirement match, which the WWE still owes him. The legend said that nobody can dictate when he would retire – he would do it on his terms only. Whenever the topic of his retirement comes up, Goldberg admitted he feels rebellious and determined to prove people wrong.
