WWE wanted prospective signings to know that the company was interested, despite the ongoing 'hiring freeze.'
After replacing John Lauriniatis as WWE's Head of Talent Relations last July, Triple H rehired several names that had been previously released by the promotion.
Triple H also worked on hiring new names, most notably former NJPW star Karl Fredericks (now Eddy Thorpe) and ex-AAA star Dragon Lee.
WWE had no problem hiring new names during the latter half of 2022 but there have been zero new hirings so far in 2023.
Fightful Select reports that WWE does indeed have a "hiring freeze" and sources in the company said it has been in place since January.
It was said that the hiring freeze was done due to the promotion's talks to prepare the grounds for a potential sale.
WWE has since confirmed a deal with Endeavor, though there is no word on when this hiring freeze will end.
With WWE not looking at signing new names, the promotion has let a lot of stars slip through their proverbial fingers.
Nick Aldis was informed by WWE that the company was interested in him, but that they would not be hiring him at this time.
Aldis has since worked out a short-term agreement with Impact Wrestling but is reportedly not under contract.
WWE also had contact with EJ Nduka and Jay White, with Triple H being adamant that details of the discussions should be kept secret.
White has since signed with Tony Khan and All Elite Wrestling, and it was said that a communication error affected his talks with WWE.
WWE had also been interested in Hikuleo and Tama Tonga, as well as bringing back Trinity 'Naomi' Fatu prior to Vince McMahon's return in January 2023.
