The WWE's new World Heavyweight Championship will be part of the promotion's future but also pays tribute to the past.

The new World Heavyweight Championship was unveiled last week by Triple H, in response to Roman Reigns competing sporadically as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. The first champion will be decided later this month at WWE Night of Champions, though WWE has given no confirmation as to how a new champion will be crowned. The World Heavyweight Championship will be defended on Raw going forward given that Reigns was drafted to SmackDown last week as the blue brand #1 pick.

During the latest episode of WWE's The Bump, fans got a much closer look at the new World Heavyweight Championship. Matt Camp explained, as many had predicted, that the new title's design is an homage to the classic World Heavyweight Championship. That title has its origins in WCW and is commonly referred to by fans and collectors as the 'Big Gold' belt.

On the center plate, there are three lions, representing the McMahon family crest. This crest also appeared on a side plate for the 2002-2005 WWE Undisputed Championship. Near the top of the center plate, there is a crown, which was first seen on Bruno Sammartino's WWWF Championship following his victory in 1963.

An eagle can also be found on the center plate, which had been a fixture of WWE Championships prior to 2013. 60 diamonds emblazon the new championship, representing the 60 years of the WWE Championship, an anniversary which was reached last month. The edge of each of the three plates on the new World Heavyweight Championship is surrounded by a ring rope, representing the three-ring ropes of the squared circle.
