The road to WWE Night of Champions, and the crowning of a new World Heavyweight Champion will begin in earnest during tonight's Raw.

Tonight's Raw will be the first episode of the red brand following last weekend's Backlash Premium Live Event in Puerto Rico. The show (WWE's first PLE in the territory in 18 years) saw Bad Bunny defeat Damian Priest in the San Juan Street Fight. The match also saw the one-night returns of Savio Vega and Carlito, who seriously impressed management. In the main event, Cody Rhodes was able to get payback on Brock Lesnar, defeating the Beast Incarnate in a bloody war.

With Backlash 2023 in the history books, all attention turns toward Night of Champions later this month. Fightful Select reports that the tournament to crown the next World Heavyweight Champion will not only begin tonight but will take up a "significant portion of Raw."

The plan is for the new championship title belt to be present at ringside, as it has appeared on TV in recent weeks. Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Shinsuke Nakamura, The Miz, Finn Balor, and Damian Priest are planned for tonight's brackets of the tournament.

One-name fans may not be seeing physically on Raw is Becky Lynch, who has been out of action for a month. Fightful's report notes that WWE has had numerous 'missing' posters made to continue Lynch's feud with Trish Stratus. The two are rumored to be facing off later this year at Summerslam.

WWE will also continue their angle with Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville, who will be a regular tag team moving forward. The pair will be doing an angle where they are petitioning members of the roster and staff to go against management.

Tonight's Raw will also be the first episode of WWE TV since the new post-draft rosters come into effect. Those that spoke to Fightful said there will be "a new and immediate infusion of talent" following the draft and call-ups from NXT.
