Some of the Superstars of WWE will be able to speak their mind more on TV after being granted "flexibility" with their promos.

One of the biggest criticisms of WWE's on-screen product is the promotion's insistence on scripted promos. The consensus among fans is having talent recite promos word-for-word takes the 'passion' and excitement out of a promo. Superstars can also be left saying things that do not come across well, such as Roman Reigns 'suffering succotash' line from 2015. In June 2021, Jon Moxley, who competed for years in WWE as Dean Ambrose said that having to deal with scripted promos "f***ing sucks." Moxley has also gone on record saying that his cringe-inducing 'inoculation' segment in 2018, in which he recited a promo, was the moment he knew he wanted to leave WWE.

In a report from Fightful Select, it is noted that several wrestlers have been given more flexibility in their promos in recent weeks. The report adds that the recent program between Karrion Kross and Shinsuke Nakamura was pointed to as an example of this flexibility.

This is the latest change overseen by WWE's Chief Content Officer Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, who was appointed to the role last July. In August of last year, it was reported that WWE talent were allowed to 'loosen up' when it comes to promos. Superstars were also allowed to improvise more in the ring. It is unclear to what extent, if any, this has changed following the return of Vince McMahon in January of this year.
