Ronda Rousey made her return to WWE programming this week, but the former Raw & SmackDown Women's Champion may not be around for long.
During this week's Raw, Rousey returned alongside Shayna Baszler by attacking Raquel Rodriguez after the latter's victory over Chelsea Green. The match had initially been a tag team match, pitting Rodriguez and Liv Morgan against Green and Sonya Deville, but plans changed due to Morgan's injury.
Ronda Rousey was forced to miss a lot of in-ring time due to aggravating an injury, which forced WWE to change plans for the Baddest Woman on the Planet. Initially, WWE had intended for Rousey and Baszler to challenge for (and almost certainly win) the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 39. Due to her aggravated injury though, plans changed, and Rousey was one of eight women in the Women's Tag Team Showcase match. This match (which Rousey and Baszler still won) allowed Ronda to do far less in the ring and was easier given her injury.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it is suggested that the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships are 'cursed' and that Rousey and Baszler were indeed supposed to win at WrestleMania. Dave Meltzer reports that Rousey's return to Raw is an issue with timing, as she is planning to take time off from WWE. Meltzer adds that the plan was to establish Rousey and Baszler as lengthy champions and then do a storyline the pair were building towards.
Rousey and Baszler will be one of four teams to challenge for the now-vacated WWE Women's Tag Team Championships on the May 29, episode of Raw. The pair will face Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville, Bayley and IYO SKY, and Raquel Rodriguez and a mystery partner.
