The segment on this week's Raw between Triple H and Cody Rhodes was based on a genuine stand off between the Game and former WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan.
During Raw, Rhodes was attacked by Brock Lesnar, both backstage and in the ring, in an attack that left the American Nightmare with a 'broken arm.' In a segment with Triple H, Cody refused to be seen by the medical team, while Triple H spoke about cancelling, or at least postponing, Rhodes' match this weekend with Lesnar. Rhodes vowed that he will fight Lesnar no matter what this weekend, and said that if Triple H was in his shoes, he wouldn't be considering not going through with the match.

As a prominent name backstage in WWE for years, Triple H has had to have conversations such as what we saw on Raw with several members of the roster. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez explained that this week's segment drew inspiration from an interaction between Triple H and Daniel Bryan.
"This is actually a worked version of when Hunter wanted to stop that Bryan Danielson match and Daniel wanted to fight him in the back. Where Hunter is trying to tell him ‘you can’t do this’ and Cody’s furiously explaining, ‘bro, you’ve done this 1,000 times, what would you do?’ Finally, Hunter gave in, and now Cody Rhodes is going into Night of Champions with a clipped wing."
In 2013, a match between Bryan and Randy Orton ended early after the future AEW star received a 'stinger' during the match, and Triple H called the match off. Backstage, the two had a lengthy argument, in which Bryan pointed out that if Triple H was the one in the match, he would have refused to have had the match stopped. The real-life argument was later used for a storyline, with an in-character interview being shared on WWE.com
