The WWE Women's Tag Team Championships and NXT Women's Tag Team Championships will be unified on next week's episode of SmackDown.
During this week's episode of the blue brand, Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre, the NXT Women's Tag Champions, were interviewed by Kayla Braxton but quickly interrupted by the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler. Baszler claimed that she is the reason the NXT Women's Tag Team Championships were created, while Rousey claimed that WWE "isn't big enough for two sets of Women's Tag Team Champions."

Fyre and Dawn agreed, leading to a brawl between the two sets of champions. Later in the show, it was made official that the title unification match will happen on the June 23, episode of WWE SmackDown.
The WWE Women's Tag Team Championships were launched in 2019, with Sasha Banks and Bayley being crowned the first champions. The championship is considered distinct from the WWF Women's Tag Team Championships which were contested from 1983 to 1989. Rousey is in her first reign with the titles, while Baszler is in her third. The pair won the vacant titles during the May 29, 2023, episode of Raw.
The NXT Women's TTag Team Championships were created in March 2021, with Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez being the first champions. The pair were awarded the titles following the victory in the first-ever Women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, and after the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship match they had originally received for their win ended in controversy.
