Rhea Ripley will now be known as the Women’s World Champion instead of the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion.

In the opening segment of Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, the show kicked off with WWE official Adam Pearce in the ring to present Ripley, who then walked out to the ring, with the gold. The belt design is similar to the new World Heavyweight Championship that Seth Rollins won back at Night of Champions last month in the tournament finals over AJ Styles.

Once given the title, Dominik Mysterio came to the ring to celebrate with Ripley by putting the new championship around her waist. They celebrated before being confronted by Cody Rhodes, who challenged Mysterio to a match at Money in the Bank next month.

WWE has yet to confirm who Ripley will defend the title against at MITB in London. Her previous title defense was a squash win over Natalya at Night of Champions.

Last week, WWE did a similar segment where Asuka was presented with a new WWE Women’s Championship, replacing the Raw Women’s Title after dethroning Bianca Belair at Night of Champions. It should be noted that the title continues the lineage of the Women’s Championship established in 2016.

In 2016, WWE introduced the title as the top prize for the women’s division on the SmackDown brand. In this year’s Draft, WWE sent SmackDown Champion Ripley was drafted to Raw, while Raw Champion Bianca Belair went to SmackDown.
