WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre is headed to the upcoming Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Germany. The games take place June 17-25 and will feature 7,000 athletes competing across 26 sports.
McIntyre, who has been away from WWE for months amid contract renewal negotiations, was named a Special Olympics Champion Ambassador during SummerSlam 2021 weekend.
In a press release sent in to SEScoops, Special Olympics CEO Mary Davis touted WWE as an "important voice in the inclusion movement." The org said WWE shares their vision for an "inclusive and unified society." McIntyre also spoke about his involvement and the experience that awaits him this weekend.
“The role of Special Olympics Global Ambassador is one I hold with immense pride. The athletes never fail to inspire and amaze everyone at WWE with their drive and positivity,” said McIntyre.
“Being in Berlin for the Special Olympics World Games in person alongside the thousands of athletes demonstrating their skills on a global stage will be an experience to remember.”
WWE has been working with the Special Olympics since 2014. The two organizations forged an 'international partnership' in 2016.
As a Special Olympics Champion Ambassador, McIntyre has worked side-by-side with Special Olympics athletes on several campaigns including his “School of Strength” online workout series.

McIntyre is in the final year of his WWE contract and there have been ongoing negotiations for a new deal. Earlier this week, PWInsider reported that WWE is optimistic they'll be able to re-sign the former WWE Champion.
