Former WWE Superstar Carlito is back under contract with the promotion following his return at Backlash, it has been claimed.
The 44-year-old wrestler returned at the May Premium Live Event in Puerto Rico by coming to the aid of Bad Bunny and the LWO. Bunny was able to defeat The Judgment Day's Damian Priest in the 'San Juan Street Fight' in the first singles match for the Grammy Award-winning artist.
Carlito Under Contract
Following Carlito's appearance at Backlash and the impressive shape he's in, speculation grew that WWE would attempt to sign the former United States, Intercontinental, and Tag Team Champion to a new deal. During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported on a claim that Carlito has signed a new deal with WWE.
“He (Carlito) had an independent show on July 15 for Devon Nicholson in Canada, and he called him up to cancel and said that he has signed with WWE. So… perhaps he has signed with WWE, it wouldn’t surprise me. He got that big pop in Puerto Rico so maybe he’s back. That’s what Devon Nicholson said today.”
Nicholson’s @TheHannibalTV Twitter account stated that Carlito is “returning to WWE” in a live stream headline.
Great North Wrestling, a promotion Carlito had been booked for, clarified his status:
"Carlito informed Great North Wrestling EVP Jack Kilby on June 14th that he pulled out of our July 15th event in Smiths Falls Ontario that he had previously agreed to because he had re-signed with WWE and it would be a violation of his contract. He returned his deposit and we are currently in talks with several other ex WWE stars to replace him at the event."
The former WWE Superstar previously returned to WWE during the 2021 Royal Rumble, in his first appearance for the promotion in over a decade. On the following episode of Raw, Carlito and fellow Ruthless Aggression Era-alum Jeff Hardy teamed up to defeat Elias and Jaxson Ryker.
