Things got heated behind the scenes at this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, but the backstage argument did not come to blows.
This week's Raw saw WWE continue the build to Summerslam, with Cody Rhodes challenging Brock Lesnar to a rubber match at the Biggest Party of the Summer. Logan Paul was on the show to continue his brewing feud with Ricochet, which is expected to lead to a match at Summerslam. In his first match since WrestleMania, Drew McIntyre teamed with Matt Riddle to defeat Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser of Imperium.
During the show's main event, The Judgment Day faced off against Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Seth Rollins. According to PWInsider, a backstage disagreement unfolded after the match over certain spots during the bout. These spots were described as "clunky" by some sources. Two sources placed the blame on last-minute changes to aspects of the match, which they believed affected the flow and coordination.
It has been confirmed that despite the issues between the two sides, this backstage altercation did not turn physical at any point. One source told PW Insider that it was simply a "difference of opinion" that was exacerbated by last-minute changes to the planned main event.
That same source added that almost to the second ring entrances were happening, there was a re-working of plans. They added that these changes may have been part of a domino effect of things not being “as smooth as it would have been otherwise."
Despite the altercation this week, this isn't expected to be an issue moving forward. The source was "absolutely playing down" the significance of the argument, stating their belief that this isn't going to cause strife. It was also noted that a source said that, “with the company’s business on fire, everyone is especially ‘sensitive’ to making sure that they do their part to keep it going and that’s going to lead to the butting of heads over the right cause of action for a segment/match, especially with some many hot acts at the same time.”
