WWE has made a tradition to hold tryouts before WrestleMania and SummerSlam. It has been taking place since the last two WrestleManias and also took place ahead of last year's SummerSlam in Nashville. This year as well, tryouts were held ahead of the 'Biggest Event of The Summer' in Detroit.

This year's batch was praised by the training staffs including head WWE Performance Center trainer Matt Bloom and VP of Global Talent Development William Regal as they were especially impressive.

WWE started tryouts on Wednesday and it included 40 current and former college athletes and 15 football players.

Notably, the group of 21 men and 19 women comes from 36 different universities, from every major conference. The group of participants saw an average age of 23 and included 11 former college track and field athletes, six gymnasts, and others from wrestling, basketball, volleyball, powerlifting, softball, and cheer.

WWE has listed current college athletes who could transition to pro wrestling through its name, image and likeness program called 'Next In Line.'

The group of former college football players included Colin Schooler, a linebacker at Arizona and Texas Tech who ranks sixth in the FBS career tackles chart with 482, and Chance Lytle, an offensive lineman at Duke and Colorado who has a background in singing opera. Several football players had short professional stints in the NFL and CFL.

Among the standouts was Troy Yearwood, who is a former track and field star at the University of North Carolina. Other notables include wrestler Kordell Norfleet, a four-time Pac-12 champion at Arizona State; gymnast Amara Cunningham, a first-team All-Pac-12 selection at Washington; Destinee Brown, an All-America sprinter at USC; Rojé Stona, an All-America thrower at Arkansas; and Sydne Watts, a basketball player at Navy and the granddaughter of WWE Hall of Famer Bill Watts.

One of the athletes listed was former San Diego State University defensive lineman Anthony Luke, who is the real-life boyfriend of The Alpha Academy member in WWE, Maxxine Dupri.

Interesting to watch the tryouts. From other videos I have seen, including this one .. it certainly is physical.
