Gable Steveson received a hero's welcome during a commercial break on this week's episode of WWE Monday Night Raw.
The Olympic Gold Medalist made his WWE in-ring debut last month at NXT Great American Bash in a match with Baron Corbin. Steveson received a mixed response from the crowd, with chants of 'You're Not Angle,' in reference to WWE's first Olympic Gold Medalist. Some fans chanted for Corbin in the match, and the double count-out finish hardly helped win over the crowd.
This week's Raw saw Steveson receive a much more favorable reaction in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. During a commercial break, Dolph Ziggler appeared and ran down the Mill City, saying that no wrestling heroes have ever come from Minneapolis. Steveson then appeared to defend his hometown and delivered a series of Suplexes to the former World Heavyweight Champion. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer described Steveson's spot as one of the biggest pops of the night.

While Steveson is under contract with WWE and has a match under his belt, the young SUperstar's future may see him return to the Olympics. Steveson has repeatedly teased a return to amateur competition to compete in next year's Summer Games in Paris, France. In April, Steveson dominated in the U.S. Open competition, a sign that his skills as an amateur athlete have hardly dulled during his tenure under a WWE contract.
