The Aug. 18 episode of Friday Night Smackdown, featuring potentially Edge's last match with the company, averaged 2.094 million viewership and did a 0.55 rating (P18-49).
This continues WWE’s hot run, essentially even with the previous werk (2.097 million viewers, 0.55 rating), as the company continues to run against NFL Preseason games.
WWE promoted the episode as the 25th Anniversary of Edge in WWE in his home country Canada. The build to the show started on the Aug. 11 episode of WWE: Friday Night Smackdown, when Edge challenged Sheamus in their first match against each other to celebrate his anniversary.

In the episode this past Friday, Edge defeated Sheamus in front of his family and country in the main event. The match was a back-and-forth contest, as both wrestlers pulled out all the stops to win. The finish of the match came when Edge landed two Spears on his opponent to get the win. After the match, the WWE Hall of Famer celebrated in the ring as the show went off the air.
"The Rated R Superstar" has shared that his contract with WWE will expire next month. It's unclear if he will re-sign with the company he has worked for over 25 years or retire from wrestling. There is also a belief that he could be convinced to sign with All Elite Wrestling if he becomes a free agent.
Fightful Select reported that people in AEW believe it's a real possibility that he could join them. Edge would also be able to work with his friend Christian and FTR(Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler). The future of the WWE Hall of Famer will be interesting, especially with him winning clean against a signed talent in what could've been his last match in WWE.

Another storyline continuing from the Aug. 18 episode was the feud between LA Knight and The Miz. LA Knight had a match with Austin Theory, but The Miz appeared surprised and joined the commentary team to call the match. The "A-List Superstar" interfered in the match Theory to get the win by rolling Knight up while holding his trunks.
WWE is building up a Knight and Miz feud which could culminate in a match at WWE: Payback on Sep. 2. The premium live event is coming up very soon, and WWE only has Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch official for the show. Fans should expect plenty of matchups to be made official on WWE programming this week. Based on how Knight's match ended on the Aug. 18 episode, he will likely challenge The Miz soon to settle their differences at the upcoming PLE.
