WWE NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes has received quite the endorsement from Cody Rhodes, who believes that the young Superstar is indeed 'Him.'
Hayes signed with WWE in February of 2021 and would make his debut as part of NXT that June. That October, Hayes would capture the NXT North American Championship, and after losing the title at NXT Stand and Deliver 2022, would regain the gold at NXT In Your House in June. Hayes is currently in his first run as NXT Champion, having dethroned Bron Breakker in April of this year at NXT Stand & Deliver 2023.
Carmelo Hayes has certainly proven to be a star on the rise in WWE and many have high hopes for his inevitable future on the main roster. During a Reddit AMA, Cody Rhodes was asked if the reigning NXT Champion has the 'tools' to be a major star.
“Melo is him - the job requires a whole new tank so to say when you start on the road, that'll be the proving ground for our friend. i think he will do very well”
Hayes and Rhodes have a history, as the NXT Champion helped Cody train for his return to the ring as part of this year's Men's Royal Rumble match.
Carmelo Hayes has yet to make the move to the main roster, but it has been teased in the past. In March, a photo backstage at Raw teased that Hayes could be part of a stable that never materialized. Ahead of this year's Money in the Bank event, Hayes dared the winner of the Men's Ladder match (who would go on to be Damian Priest) to challenge for the NXT Championship. Hayes would also face Finn Balor during the June 26, Raw in a losing effort.
