Former AEW star Brian Pillman Jr. has officially signed a contract with WWE, it has been confirmed.
PW Insider reports that Pillman started with WWE NXT at the Performance Center this week. The second-generation wrestler had previously been spotted at the Performance Center in Orlando for a tryout. The report adds that there is "no rush" to get Pillman on NXT programming, and right now, the plan is to get him into the Performance Center and allow him to find his footing.
Pillman had previously been under contract with AEW, having inked a deal in July of 2021, but had been appearing for the company for over a year before then. Pillman spent much of his AEW tenure as part of the Varsity Blonds with Griff Garrison, and the team's name would be a homage to the Hollywood Blonds, a duo consisting of Pillman's father and 'Stunning' Steve Austin.
Pillman has spoken out about the decision to remove Julia Hart from the Varsity Blonds, believing the group never recovered from this booking decision. Shortly after his AEW exit and being seen at WWE's Performance Center, Pillman teased that he had a "huge opportunity" coming up.
Prior to AEW, Pillman spent years with Major League Wrestling and would debut on TV in May of 2018. Pillman would remain with the promotion until he signed a contract with AEW. Pillman is a one-time MLW World Tag Team Champion, holding the titles with Davey Boy Smith and Teddy Hart.
