WWE and Edge are said to be far apart from reaching a new deal, with money proving to be a sticking point.
Last month, the Rated R Superstar defeated Sheamus in the final match of his current contract with WWE. Speaking after the show, Edge said that he is unsure what the next step of his career will be.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, the reported AEW exit of Jade Cargill was brought up and it was said that AEW and the former TBS Champion are far apart when it comes to money. This led to a discussion about Edge, and Dave Meltzer stated that he and WWE aren't close to a new deal.
"It's the same thing with Edge and [Drew] McIntyre. Not that those deals are dead in WWE, but they're not close on money.
"WWE is running a business. They have an idea of a salary scale. WWE can afford anything and anyone, but they're not. They have a mental salary scale of what people in certain positions get. And some of the guys want more."
While Drew McIntyre returned to programming at WWE Money in the Bank, it has been reported that his deal with the promotion is still set to expire in early 2024.
If Edge and WWE can't agree on a new contract, then AEW may soon become home to Adam Copeland. Some in AEW believe that there is a real possibility of Edge joining the promotion. Tony Khan reportedly offered Edge a deal in 2019 before the latter's in-ring return with WWE. Edge is close friends with FTR and Christian Cage, even if the holder of the TNT title won't admit it.
