Rick Boogs' departure from WWE this week was due to a "backstage political power play," according to the ex-Superstar himself.

This week, WWE laid off talent from both the main roster and WWE NXT, which had been expected to happen following the launch of TKO Group Holdings. These releases came mere days after over 100 employees were laid off from WWE's offices, as part of streamlining the promotion following its merger with UFC.

Rick Boggs had been with 2017 and 2023, where he had spent time on Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. Boogs hadn't been used in a storyline on WWE TV in some time, but he has claimed there is more to his release than simply not being used. In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Boogs suggested that backstage politics played a role in his departure this week.

"It's been an interesting time in my life with my job in WWE being terminated due to a backstage political power play. At least that's my opinion of it."

Boogs did not go into detail about what these backstage politics were or who allegedly influenced WWE's decision to release him. Boogs said that now was not the right time but he will go into detail "when the time is right."

Whatever Boogs does next, he will first have to wait until his non-compete clause expires later this year. Talent who were signed to a main roster contract will be free to work elsewhere on December 20, while released NXT talent will have to wait until October 21.
