A serious shoulder injury is keeping former WWE Champion Sheamus out of the ring, it has been reported.

The Irish Superstar hasn't competed since the August 18, 2023, episode of WWE SmackDown, where he lost to Edge. This was the final match on Edge's most recent contract with WWE and after the show, the Rated-R Superstar said he wasn't sure what the future held for his career.

Sheamus' absence from the ring has not gone unnoticed by fans, with questions being raised about his condition. During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer disclosed that a shoulder injury has kept Sheamus out of action and gave no timeframe as to when fans can expect him back.

“By the way, Sheamus, really bad shoulder injury. That’s why he hasn’t been on TV or at the house shows.”

While Sheamus hasn't been competing, his Brawling Brutes allies Ridge Holland & Butch have remained active in the ring. Butch recently competed in the NXT Global Heritage Invitational and came out on top in Group A. Butch will face Joe Coffey next week with the winner challenging NXT Heritage Cup holder Noam Dar at WWE NXT No Mercy.

Butch and Holland's most recent tag-team match saw the pair come up short against Austin Theory & Grayson Waller during last week's SmackDown. Their most recent victory was on the August 4, 2023, SmackDown, where they defeated Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson.

Sheamus' contract is one of many that will expire in 2024.
