CM Punk has had quite a tumultuous exit from AEW. Now, he might be eyeing a return to WWE. While nothing is official yet, Dave Meltzer has shed light on Punk's intentions.
"Regarding C.M. Punk, there is obviously tons of talk regarding him returning. There have been rumors that it's happening, but those in WWE have only said that no deal is completed and those close to Punk have told us that it is his intention to return, and the two sides are in talks," Meltzer revealed in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
This revelation comes after Punk's dramatic departure from AEW, where he was fired with cause following backstage altercations. The most significant incident occurred at AEW All In London, where Punk had a backstage brawl with Jack Perry just moments before his opening match on the PPV. There were also reports of a heated exchange with AEW CEO Tony Khan.
CM Punk's return to WWE, should it materialize, could be one of the most anticipated moments in recent wrestling history. Punk, a former WWE Champion, left the company on contentious terms in 2014. His return could mark the end of one of professional wrestling's longest-running sagas.
Speculation is now turning to when and how Punk might make his WWE comeback. Meltzer suggests that Survivor Series weekend in Chicago would be an ideal setting for a surprise return.
During his tenure in AEW, Punk achieved significant success, becoming a two-time World Champion and engaging in feuds with some of the promotion's biggest stars. However, his time there was marred by backstage issues, including a fight with The Elite in September 2022 and a lengthy injury hiatus.
