WWE Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley recently discussed how she picked her ring name in WWE.
Rhea Ripley, whose real name is Demi Bennett hustled in the independent circuit under her real name when she entered the pro wrestling world in 2013. She eventually joined WWE as part of the inaugural Mae Young Classic in 2017 under the new name- 'Rhea Ripley.'
Since then, she has achieved several accolades in the company, including winning the 2023 Women's Royal Rumble and holding the Women's championship on several occasions.
After joining The Judgment Day, she has showcased her darker side and has become one of the top heel stars in the company. She is such a fearless force who never shies away from going face-to-face with the male wrestlers as well.
So what's the story behind 'Rhea Ripley' name? 'The Eradicator' recently joined Allan & Carly podcast for an interview and she was asked about the origins of her WWE character. Ripley revealed that her last name is based on the 'Alien' film series character, Ellen Ripley. Here is what she revealed:
"It actually doesn't have anything to do with that but it's funny because every time I post a photo that's what people write, they're like, 'Rhea Ripped-Ly'. I actually got it from the chick from Aliens. Yeah. I looked up bada** female names and Rhea was the name of a goddess and Ripley was the chick from Aliens. I was like, 'They sound great together.'"
She was further asked if her name was also inspired by Ripley's Believe It or Not! and The Judgment day member laughed and replied "That too."
Rhea Ripley's last title defense took place Raquel Rodriguez on the September 11 edition of Monday Night Raw. There are lots of potential challengers for Ripley and the long list also includes Jade Cargill. Some believe Cargill is a threat for the champ but 'The Eradicator' is seemingly brimming with confidence being on the mountaintop of the women's division.
