Despite The Rock confirming plans were in place for him to wrestle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 and hinting at a potential match against Reigns at WrestleMania 40, reports indicate that he is not being factored into the main event plans for that show in April of next year.

Sports Illustrated is reporting that the decision about The Rock in the main event at WrestleMania won't be Rock's to make, isn't a topic of substance in the company at the moment, and currently is not slated to happen.

The Rock made waves last month during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show by alluding to the fact that Reigns and himself were set to do battle at last year's WrestleMania in Los Angeles. Rocks said those plans were scrapped due to the inability to make it extra special for fans, but teased a showdown between the two stars at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia.

That same night, The Rock made a surprise appearance on Smackdown and beat up Austin Theory. The Rock has not wrestled a full match for WWE since losing to John Cena at WrestleMania 29. The Rock wrestled an impromptu six second match against Erick Rowan of The Wyatt Family at WrestleMania 32.

Though The Rock vs. Roman Reigns likely won't be happening at WrestleMania 40, indications are that Cody Rhodes vs. Reigns 2 is the prime candidate to main event the show. This week, both men crossed paths during Smackdown and stared each other down on the entrance ramp.

Rhodes and Reigns wrestled in the main event of WrestleMania 39. Reigns defeated Cody with a spear after lots of interference from The Bloodline.
