Michael Cole was not a part of this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, but it wasn't an illness that kept the veteran commentator away.

This week's Raw served as the season premiere of the red brand which featured a stacked card during its three hours. Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER was able to retain his championship against 'Big' Bronson Reed to continue his record-breaking reign. Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso did not have the same luck as they lost the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships to the Judgment Day.

This week's show may have been a jam-packed three hours, but it was missing the familiar voice of Michael Cole. Instead, Kevin Patrick called the action with Corey Graves. Cole's absence from the show was not due to any type of illness or injury, PW Insider has reported. Instead, Cole requested this week off some time ago due to a personal commitment. It just so happened that the week Cole requested off was later scheduled to be the season premiere of Monday Night Raw. Michael Cole is expected to return to the commentary table next week.

Last year, Michael Cole celebrated reaching 25 years with WWE after debuting on TV in 1997. The former war correspondent initially began as a backstage interviewer but gained experience in 1998 after he briefly replaced Jim Ross on commentary after JR suffered his second bout of Bells Palsy. Cole's lengthy tenure with WWE has earned praise from fans and those in the business, with Pat McAfee calling Cole the GOAT of commentary.
