CM Punk isn't expected to be returning to WWE anytime soon, but the company knows what they want talent to say about him.
Since being released from AEW in September, Punk has remained a free agent in the industry. Despite teases of Punk making it to WWE TV, the promotion is reportedly not interested in working with the former AEW World Champion who walked out following the 2014 Royal Rumble.
Last month's WWE Fastlane event took place at a time when speculation about Punk's possible future with WWE was at a fever pitch. Despite this, Punk wasn't brought up by journalists during the post-Fastlane press conference. WWE talent was surprised that Punk wasn't brought up during the press conference, according to Fightful Select.
Punk wasn't brought up but WWE had a plan in case he was mentioned during the press conference. The response from talent would have matched previous statements by WWE staff: that there is no ill will between the two sides and that the possibility of a return is always there.
While there is no ill will, at least on WWE's part, it was made clear that Punk isn't signed and that negotiations are not happening at this time. Therefore, fans should not purchase tickets to upcoming WWE events with the expectation of seeing him.
Triple H was expecting to field questions about Punk that never got asked, and was planning on responding accordingly. When a WWE higher-up was asked this past Monday if CM Punk could be in talks with WWE, they said that the answer remains a "firm no."
