Johnny Gargano recently revealed why one of WWE's most beloved tag teams of the past decade, DIY (Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) tasted success in the company.
DIY had been one of the most exciting tag teams in NXT history. They were part of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in 2015 and eventually took over the black and gold brand back in the day. They had a successful tag team run in the WWE's developmental brand when they held the tag team titles before splitting.
After almost four years, DIY reunited to the fans' delight. After being absent for several months, Gargano made his highly anticipated comeback to WWE television. He made his return, saving his former tag team partner Tommaso Ciampa from an attack by Imperium in the process.
Ciampa eventually returned the favor when he helped his old friend Gargano defeat Giovanni Vinci. On the October 30 episode of Raw, DIY officially reformed to defeat Imperium.
Speaking with The Tennesssean, Gargano talked about facing numerous wrestlers across the globe and connecting with the fans.
"I've been fortunate to have some great opponents and partners that, like myself, have passionately traveled around the world and connected with our fans to get ourselves to where we're now [working for WWE]," says Gargano.
Johnny Wrestling then spoke about the success of himself and Ciampa in regards to the tag-team championship run in NXT:
"[DIY] has been successful because Tomasso and I, even though we may have a corporate machine behind us, still attack our careers from a perspective that if we don't do this for ourselves first, then nobody else will do it for us."
"WWE fans are watching a special product at a special time. The atmosphere is driven by characters and talents experiencing the opportunity to reach greater audiences in [unprecedented] ways."
Recently, DIY endured a loss against The Creed Brothers. We will have to wait and see what the future holds for them.
