The backstage response to CM Punk within WWE has been positive thus far, though some are skeptical as to whether this positivity can last.

CM Punk made his shocking return to WWE at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023 in the closing moments of the show. The return marked Punk's first time appearing at a WWE PLE since the 2014 Royal Rumble event. The show came 91 days after Punk's final match and backstage brawl at AEW All In.

During his first promo on Raw in close to a decade, Punk said that the reaction backstage was "all love" and akin to a family reunion. That is indeed the case, sources who spoke to PW Torch confirmed. Punk tried to approach everybody and was “very nice” and “humble” and “in a good mood.” One wrestler pointed out that "he knew he kinda had to be" given his burnt bridges in AEW.

Another wrestler described Punk as "humbled" while another added that he seemed positive "but we'll see in a couple of months if it sticks." When asked if those in WWE are skeptical of Punk's friendliness, one Superstar said yes and estimated that bout half the wrestlers aren't sure if this friendliness is sustainable, or who he actually is. Punk said on Raw that he has changed from the past, a sentiment echoed by Triple H during the post-Survivor Series press conference.

The overall first impression of Punk within WWE has been a good one and a necessary one for those who've heard stories of his AEW tenure, as well as his 2014 WWE exit.
