Earlier this year, Tony Khan forgot that a former WWE Champion is always in line for a title shot, at least according to Raw Superstar Jinder Mahal.
In January of this year, Mahal entered a feud with Seth Rollins which saw the pair headline Raw in a World Heavyweight Championship match. While Rollins would retain, the injury he suffered during the match has kept the Architect out of action ever since.
In the days running up to the match, AEW President Tony Khan gave a barrage of angry posts about the booking of Mahal. Khan's issue was that Mahal hadn't won many matches in the run-up to the title match. The AEW President did not take kindly to fans questioning the booking of certain stars on his roster who had been similarly thrust into title opportunities.
Khan's outburst against Mahal made the former WWE Champion the talk of the wrestling world over a handful of says. Speaking to The Gorilla Position, Mahal was asked for his thoughts on the AEW President.
“I think Tony Khan is forgetting I’m the Modern Day Maharaja, former WWE Champion, and being a former WWE Champion, I should be number one contender anytime I want. The Royal Rumble happened a week after that.If you notice, I wasn’t in it because I didn’t feel there was a need.
"The Modern Day Maharaja wants a title match, he can just get one. It’s okay. Overall, it’s great. It caused a lot of buzz, and I appreciate the competition because it makes everybody better.”

After his defeat to Rollins, Mahal has resumed his position on WWE's totem pole. He has not competed on Raw since the loss. He has traded wins with Ricochet at live events and his only TV appearance over the past month was on an episode of WWE Main Event earlier this month.
