This day in history ..
1935 - Wildcat Pete defeats Tetsuo Higami in Honolulu, Hawaii to become the first NWA Hawaii Heavyweight Champion.
1954 - WWE Hall of Famer Tony Atlas, one half of the first African American WWF Tag Team champions with Rocky Johnson, is born.
1976 - Bob Backlund defeats Harley Race for the Missouri Title in St. Louis, Missouri, ending Race's third reign as champion.
1977 - The biggest star of the current WWE generation, multi-time WWE and World champion, John Cena was born.
1978 - Paul Jones & Ricky Steamboat win the NWA World Tag Team Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina, defeating Cyclon Negro & Baron Von Raschke, Gene & Ole Anderson, and Masked Superstar & Ken Patera in a tournament to win the belts.
1979 - The Assassins defeat Bill Dundee & Robert Gibson to win the AWA Southern Tag Team Title in Memphis, Tennessee. On the same show, The Mongolian Stomper defeats Toru Tanaka to win the AWA Southern Heavyweight Title, ending Tanaka's second title reign.
1985 - Ox Baker defeats Carlos Colon in San Juan, Puerto Rico to win the WWC World Heavyweight Title, now known as the WWC Universal Heavyweight Title.
1988 - Sting & Lex Luger, managed by Magnum T.A., win the third, and final, Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup tag team tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina by defeating Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson. Sting & Luger defeated Ivan Koloff & Dick Murdoch, The Midnight Express, and the Powers Of Pain to reach the finals. Anderson & Blanchard defeated Kendall Windham & Italian Stallion and The Fantastics to reach the finals. The two-day tournament (day one was held in Greenville, South Carolina) was filled with bracketing problems, as there were 22 teams in the tournament, and for some odd reason, the Sheepherders wrestled twice in the second round, defeating Tim Horner & Brad Armstrong, but losing to the Midnight Express. So despite winning (and eliminating Horner & Armstrong) the Sheepherders didn't go to the next round. The tournament, which was started as a multi-promotional event but now was exclusively WCW, would be discarded when Turner Broadcasting purchased the company from the Crocketts.
1990 - Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig defeats Tito Santana in a tournament final in Austin, Texas to win his first WWF Intercontinental Championship. The tournament, which was held over the course of several TV tapings (with some matches held out of order), saw Hennig defeat Jimmy Snuka and Santana defeat One Man Gang in the first round, while the other first round matches ended with no winners (Roddy Piper vs. Rick Martel was a double DQ, Dino Bravo vs. Brutus Beefcake was a double countout), so Hennig and Santana went straight to the finals. The title had been vacated when the Ultimate Warrior won the World Title from Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 6.
1992 - The Heavenly Bodies (Stan Lane & Tom Pritchard) defeat The Fantastics (Bobby & Jackie Fulton) in a tournament final to become the first Smoky Mountain Wrestling Tag Team Champions. The Bodies had defeated Brad & Bart Batten and Joey Maggs & Danny Davis to reach the finals, while the Fantastics defeated Joel Deaton & Billy Black and Jack Victory & Rip Morgan to get to the finals.
2002 - Bret Hart appeared on the ABC Special "Contact: Talking To The Dead" with spirit medium George Anderson on April 22nd. James Williams sent along the following recap of his appearance on the show, which saw Bret sitting with Anderson as he "contacted" members of Bret's family, and were interspersed with comments from Hart taped after their meeting.
- Anderson claimed to have contacted his mother, and said she had passed, but not that long ago, saying she was a "new arrival". He said that Helen Hart wasn't afraid and that she was being, in her words, a "real trooper". Bret confirmed that his mother had passed away a month before, and the term "trooper" was a word that she would have used.
- Anderson said that Helen Hart spoke of Bret's life being demanding, and as if he leads a double life because of the demands on him. Bret said the life of a wrestler is like a double life, and compared it to being Batman and Bruce Wayne.
- Anderson said that Helen Hart was saying that there was a lack of communication in the Hart family. He said they were not a "normal American family" and that they were dysfunctional. He said the Hart's were like the "Titanic, every man for themselves". Bret spoke about his family, and said because they lived isolated in a big house, they fought and loved each other a lot, and said it made for a "strange existence".
- Anderson said that Helen remarked that there was jealousy around Bret. She wanted Bret to know that there was jealousy around him, but that it was not his fault. Bret said that he has siblings that are jealous, and that he sometimes feels guilty for his success, which is something he often talked about with his mom.
- Anderson claimed that Helen was showing him a scene from "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", implying he had a large family. Bret stated that he had seven brothers.
- Anderson said that when Helen was alive, she was a bereaved mother, and that she spoke of having lost two children, and that those children were with her.
- Anderson said there were two males claiming to be brothers. He said one of the males says he could have been closer to Bret, but problems on earth got in the way. Bret said that would be his brother Dean, who Bret felt distant with as they got older. Bret said he felt they didn't butt heads much, as Anderson said, but Bret thought that Dean might have felt that way.
- Anderson said Dean felt a gap between them but wanted Bret to know that he forgave him, and hoped that he also was forgiven.
- Anderson said his other brother was closer to him. Anderson said he was his best pal and a good friend. Bret said his brother Owen was "talked into doing a stunt" that resulted in his death. Bret said he always wanted to know what Owen was thinking when he agreed to that, saying it was unlike him.
- Anderson said Owen looked to Bret in a fatherly way, and that he didn't want Bret to forget that. Bret said he taught Owen how to tie his shoelaces, and that Owen often emulated him. Anderson said Owen wanted to thank Bret for taking care of him. Anderson said that Owen felt Bret was his hero (Hart wiped away at his eye when Anderson said that). Bret said that Owen had told him how proud he was of him.
- Anderson said his brothers and mother felt Bret had to suffer in silence over all their deaths. They wanted Bret to pray for them, and that they cherished him.
- Bret said he wanted to talk to his mother, Owen and Dean, and that he felt it all came across as being "very real" to him.
2003 - Tiger Mask IV defeats Koji Kanemoto in Hiroshima, Japan to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title, ending Kanemoto's fourth reign as champion.
2003 - NWA: TNA held their weekly PPV in Nashville, TN. Buck Woodward filed the following PPV report:
NWA: Total Nonstop Action for April 23rd began with a long recap of recent events in the company, as they are one week away from Jeff Jarrett vs. Raven for the NWA World Heavyweight Title. The package also focused on the developing feud between the New Church and Team Extreme.
Raven was shown sitting in front of some candles, with two people standing in front of him (we couldn't see who they were, but it was apparently Alexis Laree and Julio Dinero). He promised to "achieve his birthright" next week and win the NWA World Title. Raven told his followers that he would need a sacrifice from them tonight. He talked about dropping "The Mother of All Bombs" on Jeff Jarrett tonight.
The TNA opening aired.
Goldylocks was outside the building to interview Glen Gilberti and Mike Sanders. Mike and Glen were arguing over who had "it" and who didn't. Glen called Sanders "Below Average". The rest of SEX showed up, and Glen was mad about them being late. Gilberti slapped the sunglasses off Sonny Siaki and yelled at them to go get ready. As they left, AJ Styles and D'Lo Brown attacked Sanders and Gilberti and dragged them to the ring for their match.
D'Lo Brown & AJ Styles defeated Glen Gilberti & Mike Sanders in 6:29 by disqualification. After going back and forth, Brown got some nearfalls at the end, and Styles went to the top rope when Elix Skipper and Christopher Daniels ran in to cause the DQ by attacking Styles. Jerry Lynn and Amazing Red ran in and went at it with Elix Skipper & Christopher Daniels, while Styles fought Disco into the crowd. Lynn and Red beat down Daniels and Skipper, but Sonny Siaki and David Young ran in and attacked Lynn and Red. Siaki, Young, Daniels and Skipper laid out Lynn and Red, and stood over them.
Goldylocks interviewed Jeff Jarrett, who said that he doesn't know what Raven was talking about, and that "back in the old days" dropping a bomb meant something, but it doesn't anymore. Erik Watts interrupted, saying that he's going to look for Raven to talk about "peace and love" instead of violence. Watts had a straitjacket with him for Raven.
Backstage, we saw that someone had apparently laid out Chris Harris, as security attended to him.
Elix Skipper and Chris Daniels came back to the ring. Skipper took the mic and said that since Harris and Storm could not wrestle, there would be no match tonight, and that they were now the number one contenders for the NWA World Tag Team Championship. James Storm ran out and attacked both men to start the match alone.
Elix Skipper & Christopher Daniels defeated James Storm & Chris Harris in 11:08. Harris came out at the 4:44 mark, but Storm was unable to tag out, being double teamed by XXX. Seven minutes in, Storm finally made the hot tag to Harris, who began cleaning house. Daniels and Skipper took back over with double team moves, and Storm ran back in. After some back and forth action, Harris went for the Catotonic on Skipper, but Daniels hit him from behind, and Skipper rolled Harris into a small package for the win. Storm helped Harris up after the match, but Storm seemed frustrated, and walked off alone.
Goldylocks was backstage with Alexis Laree. Alexis said she was looking for Jeff Jarrett. She said she would "rip off his ballsack" and shove it down Goldy's throat, then claimed that it had already been there. Laree busted into the ticket office and threatened Sarah Lee, when Jarrett arrived and beat up Laree, hitting her with a trash can and slamming her into the bed of a pickup truck.
Erik Watts came to ringside, claiming he was looking for Raven, and saying he was going to put him in a straitjacket to talk some sense into him.
An interview done by Jim Mitchell earlier today was shown. He explained the "Ultimate Sin" match, which involves barbed wire (and he made a point to say it was not "WCW barbed wire") being wrapped around the ring ropes, tables, trashcans and chairs in the ring, a Singapore cane on a pole in the corner, and a ladder so wrestlers can reach a baseball bat hanging above the ring. Great promo by Mitchell, who said "Pain is God" after informing Team Extreme that "Extreme is Dead".
Team Extreme (New Jack, The Sandman and Perry Saturn) defeated The Church (Brian Lee, Slash and Mike Awesome) in an Ultimate Sin match in 9:42. Violent brawl, which included a lot of blood (especially from Slash), New Jack getting a dollar bill stapled to his head, and a number of "ECW" chants. Perry Saturn even wore an old ECW shirt. Sandman reached the Singapore Cane at the four minute mark. Awesome powerbombed Sandman through a table at the six and a half minute mark, taking both men out of the match. Saturn splashed Lee through a table on the floor from the top rope at the seven minute mark. This left New Jack and Slash, and Jack hit a top rope chairshot on Slash for a two count. Jack set up the ladder and started climbing, but Slash knocked him off through a table on the floor. Slash then climbed the ladder, but the lights went off, and when they came back on, Justin Credible was on the ladder. Credible starting slugging it out with Slash, and Perry Saturn powerbombed him off the ladder. Justin then grabbed the baseball bat, with a little trouble, then jumped off the ladder and hit Slash with the bat. Saturn then covered Slash for the pin.
The recent history between Kid Kash and Trinity was shown. Mike Tenay then called out Kash for an in-ring interview. Tenay pointed out how Kash abandoned Trinity last week when the Harris Brothers H-Bombed her. Tenay said Kash was "gutless" but Kash said that was just his opinion. Kash then said he discovered Trinity, and that she didn't have a contract with TNA. Kash said she has a contract with him, and that she has to do what he says, when he says it. Kash said he owned her. Trinity came out, angry, and Kash slapped her. Trinity slapped Kash in return. Kash said that tonight Trinity could wrestle men, since that is what she wanted. Kash started to say she could have a match with him, but she hit him before he could finish.
Trinity defeated Kid Kash in 6:31. Trinity actually dominated the first minute and a half, hitting a moonsault on the floor, but Kash came back with a whip into the guardrails and a chairshot to the face. Kash chopped Trinity, then refused to pin her when they got back in the ring. Kash continued to dominate, with Trinity getting a few hope spots. Trinity kept rallying though, until the referee got knocked out in a collision. Mike Sanders and the Harris Brothers came in, and looked at both Trinity and Kash. The Harris Brothers H-Bombed Kash, and put Trinity on top. The referee woke up and counted the pin. I guess the X-Division Title was not on the line.
Backstage, Goldylocks was standing outside Jim Mitchell's dressing room. Mitchell and Slash were arguing, with Slash storming off towards the ring, and Mitchell not happy with him doing so. I think production stayed on the shot too long, and Vince Russo accidentally was seen on camera in the background.
Shark Boy came out for a match, but Slash, still bloody from the earlier match, ran up behind him and gave him a reverse DDT on the rampway. Slash then got in the ring and held a sword to the throat of ring announcer Jeremy Borash. Slash called out Justin Credible, who entered through the crowd, and caned Slash from behind. A referee got in, and a bell ran, and we had an impromptu match.
Justin Credible vs. Slash ended in a no-contest in 4:30. Lots of brawling on the floor. In the ring, Slash went for a reverse DDT, but Credible kicked him low with a mulekick. They traded reversals on a tombstone piledriver, and Slash ended up hitting the whirlybird powerbomb. Slash went to the top rope, but Credible superkicked him as he came off. Credible grabbed his Singapore cane and blasted Slash with it, but Slash pulled out powder and blinded Justin. Slash took the cane and blasted Justin with it, chasing him into the crowd. They battled out of the building, where Sandman attacked Slash with a flaming Singapore cane. The other members of the Church and Team Extreme got involved, and a wild brawl took place in the lot, with security pouring out to break it up.
Erik Watts came to the ring, saying he was not able to find Raven, so he was calling him out to the ring. Julio Dinero came out, but Watts said he was not there for violence. Watts made fun of Dinero, then said he did not want a crony, he wanted Raven. Dinero charged him, and Watts hit a pair of clotheslines and a chokeslam on Dinero. Dinero came back, pulling Watts into the turnbuckles and hitting a spinkick. Watts and Dinero went at it, with Watts throwing Dinero into a corner. Alexis Laree ran in, and hit Watts with a low blow, allowing Dinero to pound on him and lay him out. Dinero and Laree started to set up a table, but Jeff Jarrett ran in and DDT'd Laree and gave the Stroke to Dinero. Jarrett put Dinero on a table and went to the ropes, but Laree tried to stop him. Laree went for a rana, but Jarrett held her, and powerbombed Laree off the middle rope through the table, with Dinero on top. Jarrett then walked through the crowd and out a door.
A video package on the history leading to Jerry Lynn vs. Amazing Red was shown.
Konnan came out to join the announcers for the next match.
Amazing Red defeated Jerry Lynn to become the number one contender for the X-Division Championship in 14:00. Both men wore their NWA World Tag Team Championship belt to the ring. Konnan said he doesn't know who the mystery luchadore is, and complained about not getting matches and there not being any lucha stars on the shows recently. Lynn and Red shook hands after three minutes of nice exchanges. Lynn applied a Boston Crab, turning it into a single leg and dragging Red away from the ropes once, before Red reached the bottom strand to break the hold. Red missed a 718, and Lynn blocked his sunset flip powerbomb, but Red did manage to dropkick Lynn to the floor, then hit a rana off the apron to the floor. Konnan said that TNA wants to keep the company "white" and not allow "latinos or brothers" into the company. Red got Lynn in a surfboard, but Lynn came back with a backslide for a two count. Lynn missed his guillotine legdrop on the apron, and Lynn hit hard and fell to the floor. Red went for a baseball slide, but Lynn caught it and dropped Red across the guardrail. Red managed to get the sunsetflip powerbomb for two. Red tried a kick off the ropes, but Lynn caught it into a powerbomb for a two count. Red reversed a TKO attempt into a small package for two. Red went for a piledriver, but Lynn reversed it into a Kryptonite Krunch for a two count. Red countered a cradle piledriver, but accidentally hit the referee with a moonsault. Red charged Lynn, but Lynn moved and Red ran into the ringpost. Red fell through the ropes to the floor. Ron Killings ran in, and laid Lynn out with a gourdbuster. Killings ran up to Konnan and said "We need to talk now". Konnan and Killings left, while Red covered Lynn and got the pin. Red is now the number one contender for the X-Division Title.
Erik Watts was in the back with Goldylocks, still looking for Raven. Watts said he knew where Raven was, and that he was going to put him in the straitjacket and talk to him. Watts entered a darkened room, and Raven emerged, beating up Watts and laying him out while saying "Where is your buddy Jeff?"
Don West and Mike Tenay talked up the Jeff Jarrett and Raven match for next week. They aired a video package on the events leading to next week's title match.
Jeff Jarrett was shown walking through the building. He entered Raven's room and began brawling with him. Raven hit Jarrett with a mop, and the two began fighting through the crowd. Jarrett threw a chair at Raven. Jarrett and Raven slugged it out at ringside, and Jarrett hit Raven with a chair. They made it into the ring, and Jarrett laid out Raven with a chairshot. Jarrett put Raven in a straitjacket, and hit Raven in the head with a chairshot. Jarrett never tied the jacket, but blasted Raven with another chairshot. The lights went out, and when they came back up, Team Extreme (Sandman, New Jack, Credible, Saturn) were standing in the ring. Jarrett tried to fight them off with the chair, hitting Jack and Credible, but had his third chairshot blocked by Sandman's cane. Raven hit Jarrett with a DDT, and Team Extreme (except Sandman) swarmed over him. They placed Jarrett in the straitjacket, tying the arms, and wrapping Jarrett in barbed wire. They hung him upside down on the ropes, and Raven hit him repeatedly with a cane. Team Extreme stood over Jarrett (except Sandman, who stood in the corner watching Raven). Raven was shown smiling to end the show.
2003 - Bill Goldberg appeared on Jimmy Kimmel. James Lawrence filed the following recap:
Goldberg was on Jimmy Kimmel last night, here's a recap. Jamie Kennedy was on first, as he was the co-host for this week. They aired a clip of RAW where Goldberg speared Christian. He comes out and Jimmy asks him about his name, being Jewish, and where he's been for the past two years. They touched on his football career and how he was drafted by the Rams, moving to the Surge, and then to the Atlanta Falcons, finally saying he had a career ending injury and moved to wrestling. He talked about being different with his wrestling name, instead of being a "Triple H" or "The Rock", he was just Goldberg. They moved onto his absence from the ring and Goldberg said he needed to relax, and that wrestling was a tough career, mentioning he was on the road with WCW 180 days a year. He touched on his stint in Japan, saying he has three more matches left to do there, which he may do in a couple years (making it sound like WWE is a more than year stint). Kimmel asked if he lived in Japan during that time and he said God no, which says a lot about Japan. Kimmel then announced that his cousin would be taking on Goldberg in a pillow fight, similar to Stone Cold's appearance. Goldberg was funny after he got hit first, his eyes just lit up and went after him. He eventually bullied him into a back room. Later on in the show they showed Kimmel's cousin with a cut on his forehead, so Goldberg was a little stiff with him. Goldberg pointed to the cut and said that the same thing would happen to The Rock at Backlash. All in all a good appearance but relatively light on promotion for the PPV.
2004 - A lawsuit filed by the National Wrestling Alliance against Eugene Moore and Joe Panzarino was dismissed without prejudice by a federal judge. The NWA had sought an injunction against Moore and Panzarino for improper use of the NWA name. Moore and Panzarino had at one time been members of the Alliance with Fred Rubenstein, but when the three split up as promoters, Rubenstein retained the NWA membership. Moore and Panzarino believed they were the rightful owners of the New Jersey NWA promotership and wanted the Alliance to conduct binding arbitration to settle the dispute. Once the NWA filed suit in federal court in North Carolina, Moore and Panzarino switched to using the National Wrestling Superstars banner, under which they still operate today. NWA President Bill Behrens said that under the terms of the dismissal, the NWA has the option to refile, but that never happened. Moore and Panzarino stopped using the NWA initials, so there was need to seek an injunction. At the time, Behrens stated Moore "was given an opportunity to rejoin the organization as an associate, and signed an agreement to that effect that he has failed to honor. Mr. Moore and Mr. Panzarino are not NWA members."
2004 - WWE issued the following press release:
WWE Files Amended Forms 10-K and 10-Q; Revises Accounting for 2001 WCW Asset Acquisition
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--04/23/2004--World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:WWE) announced today that it has filed an amended Form 10-K for fiscal 2003 and amended Form 10-Qs for fiscal 2004 with the Securities and Exchange Commission to revise the accounting related to the March 2001 acquisition of certain assets of World Championship Wrestling, Inc. ("WCW"(TM)). These changes principally affect fiscal 2001 and 2002 as follows:
-- $6.6 million of costs, which were originally recorded and capitalized as intangible assets, are now recorded as $1.7 million and $4.9 million of selling, general and administrative expense in fiscal 2001 and 2002, respectively. These costs arose from the termination of certain WCW licenses and related agreement assumed in the transaction.
-- The remaining $2.5 million of purchase price, which was originally assigned an indefinite life for accounting purposes, is now being amortized over a six-year period. This increases annual amortization expense by approximately $0.4 million in fiscal 2002 through 2007.
-- There were no changes to revenue or costs of revenues in any of the periods.
The company has also amended its fiscal 2004 quarterly financial statements to reflect the impact on the opening balance sheet, most significantly a $6.6 million decrease in its gross intangible assets, and additional amortization expense of approximately $0.3 million for the nine months ended January 23, 2004.
The complete Forms 10-K/A and 10-Q/A are available on our Web site and have been filed with the SEC.

2005 - ITV aired the debut of its short-lived Celebrity Wrestling TV show in Great Britain. Graham Emery filed the following TV report:
Celebrity WrestlingEpisode 1 Thoughts
ITV1 debuted their heavily hyped "Celebrity Wrestling" TV Show last night, hosted by WWE Hall-of-Fame Roddy Piper and UK TV host, Kate Thornton. It turns out that the show had very little to do with "wrestling" than over the top gimmicks (which were mostly poor creativity) and style of sumo-match.
The B-Grade celebrities were split into two teams, the Crusaders, trained by D'Lo Brown and the Warriors, trained by Joe E. Legend (of Just Joe-Fame in WWF.) D'Lo was set to play the face role and Legend is to play the heel role. But by the end of the show, the two had swapped the roles about fifty times. The Crusaders were James, Leilani, Mark, Jenny, Jeff and Michelle, the Warriors consisted of Oliver, Kate, Iwan, Annabel, Victoria and Mark.
In the first "challenge" of the show, it was Jim versus Oliver Skeet. Round 1 was a crazy sumo-style game, Jim won by tossing Oliver off twice, compared to Oliver's lone throw. Round 2 was a basketball style game where you had to take the ball and power past your opponent to score in the net. It was pretty even until Oliver knocked the ball out from a tip-off and got a lucky bounce to which he pounced on and threw into the net as the final bell went. In the third and final round, the two had to knock each other of a podium (the same they used for the Sumo round) with red hammer-like sticks. Three-quarters of the way through the round, Oliver powered Jim off of the podium, but the referee, former UFC fighter, Ian Freeman, disallowed the fall due to Oliver using his body instead of the stick to get Jim off. The round finished without either man throwing each other off of the podium, so Ian gave the match to Jim.
As we went to a break we had a sneak-peak of what's coming up on next week's episode, and it was showing footage off Oliver visiting the doctor after possibly injuring his shoulder from the games. The score was 2-1 to the Crusaders after the first game.
It is the first Women's challenge of the night, as Victoria takes on Jenny, before the games get under way we see a short video package of how the two "really hate each other." Round 1 is a game where you have to drag your opponent into your goal, no winner as the time expires and Victoria wins easily by referee's decision. Round 2 was a game where the two wore dresses and had to tear them off each other (aka WWE's Bra and Panties matches), Jenny wins this round with ease. We go to the final round where the two had to play a masked celebrity (which turns out to be Fatima Whitbread) in a game where the two are tied together and have to touch all four corners off the ring. Both women do it and the points are shared, 2-2, which leads the Crusaders up 4-3, over the Warriors.
Before heading to the commercial, D'Lo gets on the microphone and states that this is the "first step of the Crusaders winning this entire Competition." We go to a backstage shot and see Kate Lawler helping out her team-mate Victoria backstage.
In the final challenge of the night, Marc takes on Jeff. The story to this challenge is that Marc is much bigger than Jeff, Jeff even going as far to say that he's "15 Stone heavier" which sounds more of a Hulk Hogan promo on how he body slammed Andre the Giant. The first game is one where you have to take down your opponent, Marc tries to stay away from Jeff and the round ends pretty boringly, and the point, because of aggressiveness, go to Jeff. In Round 2, both men wore suits covered in tags which went touched light up. Jeff hits Marc's tag just before Marc got his and won the round and match as we head to the final round with Jeff 2-0 up. With Marc playing only for one point, the aim of the game was to toss your opponent off a revolving podium with a pendulum swinging above. Marc tossing Jeff off twice and wins the point, ending the night on 6-4 to the Crusaders.
Legend says that "the Warriors are declaring War on the Crusaders" as Kate informs us we're going off-air.
Next Week:
-Kate vs. Michelle
-Leilani vs. Annabel
-Iwan vs. Mark
-Next Week's Masked Celebrity
-Updates on Oliver and Victoria's Injuries

2006 - PWInsider.com broke the following story:
"WWE has made the decision to bring back Extreme Championship Wrestling as a full time entity and has begun talking with former ECW talent about returning to work for the new version of the legendary promotion. As of right now, WWE is targeting a September return for the promotion. No decision has been made as to exactly how the company will be brought back yet. It's possible that it will take over the present OVW territory, that it will be a promotion that gets matches on the Raw and/or Smackdown promotions or possibly in some other manner. Sources have told us that Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer will be booking ECW when it starts up.
WWE has already contacted a number of ECW wrestlers and contracts will be sent out to them this week. The talents are being offered three year deals which consist of a series of one year contracts, with rollover clauses. A number of wrestlers have been contacts so far. We can confirm that WWE has talked with The Sandman, Francine and Balls Mahoney and will be sending contracts out to them this week."
2006 - TNA held their Lockdown 2006 PPV, headlined by Lethal Lockdown featuring America's Most Wanted & Jeff Jarrett & Scott Steiner vs. Sting & AJ Styles & Rhino & Ron Killings. Here is Mike Johnson's main event report from the PPV:
They are doing Wargames entrances. Chris Harris and AJ Styles were the first two men in the cage. Harris took over on AJ, but Styles turned the tide with an awesome dropkick. Styles tried to throw Harris into the cage, but he was shoved off. Harris picked up Styles and rammed him into the cage back-first. Harris and Styles battled atop the ropes with Styles kicking him until Harris was between the ropes and the cage. Styles splashed him against the cage several times, then began raking his face across the cage. Styles continued to work over Harris until he was cut off with the Catatonic. Harris was bleeding by this point. Harris went for a second one. Earl Hebner tried to count a pinfall for some unknown reason. Styles hit the Styles Clash as the time period ended.
The next man out for Jarrett's Army was James Storm. As he made it to the cage, Styles dropkicked it. The door missed Storm but struck Gail Kim, who went down holding her elbow. Storm quickly took over on the tired Styles, hitting the Eye of the Storm (Whirlybird). Styles tried to battle against the odds, but was hit with the Hart Attack finisher. America's Most Wanted taunted whoever the next member of Sting's Warriors (I predict an Ultimate Warrior Internet rant over this) as the period ended.
The next man out was Rhino, who hit the ring and clean house on AMW. Rhino prepared for the Gore but Storm sidestepped it, shoving Rhino into the corner. Storm used an Irish Whip to give Harris momentum for a dropkick to Rhino, who was down on the mat. Storm was busted open by this point as well. As the period ended, Rhino and Styles took down AMW.
The next member of Jarrett's Army was Jarrett himself. Rhino charged up the ramp and attacked him. They brawled to the announcer's table where Styles and Rhino took turns taking shots at Jarrett. They tossed him back into the cage, where the Army took over the fight. AMW tossed Rhino into the cage. Jarrett worked over Styles and suplexed him into the cage.
The period ended, and Ron Killings was the next man out. The battled continued. Styles made his way to the top of the Cage, where he was caught by James Storm and Jeff Jarrett. Rhino and Killings grabbed them, while Harris dove underneath. They did a pyramid suplex as the period ended.
Scott Steiner made his way to the ring and hit an overhead belly to belly on Rhino. He suplexed Styles, then hit one on Killings. Steiner pressed and tossed Styles into the cage. He propped Killings on the top rope and suplexed him into the ring.
Sting made his way to the ring and the Lethal Lockdown match officially began. He cleaned house on everyone in the ring and hit an inverted atomic drop on Steiner. Jarrett's Army ended up stacked in the corner and Sting hit the Stinger Splash. The roof lowered as pyro shot down into the ring. That looked safe...not. The weapons are now in play as the Warriors grabbed everything they could and began beating down the Army.
Styles and Storm made their way to the top of the roof and exchanged punches atop of it. Gail Kim climbed up to try and help Harris, but Styles stood on her fingers. 2007 - Former WCW and WWE star Sean O'Haire was charged with felony high and aggravated assault and battery for the brawl that left him with numerous injuries outside of the Hilton Head Brewing Co. The other combatant in the incident, Juan Hamilton Brantley, was also being held on charges of high-and-aggravated assault and battery charges. Capt. Toby McSwain of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office told the Hilton Head Island Packet, "It's a little surprising that the court has issued warrants to both of them, but I guess the judge listened to both sides of the story and couldn't determine who the primary aggressor was. O'Haire's version of the story was that he was attacked by Brantley and two others when trying to help a friend. Brantley claims O'Haire attempted to start fight with him inside the bar and was kicked out. Brantley claimed to authorities that O'Haire had previously threatened him.
2007 - John Cena has one of the best matches of his career, going nearly an hour with Shawn Michaels during a Raw taping in London. James Erskine following the following taping results:
Raw:
Raw starts with a Shane McMahon promo. He runs over last week and Lashley and the Intercontinental belt. He then - because its St. George's Day - offers a No DQ match to anyone in the audience. From the back comes Robbie Brookside from Liverpool . Shane wrestles for a bit and does the trash can Van Terminator. Shane then announces it is a handicap match and his tag team partner is Umaga, who continues beating Robbie (Robbie is from FWA, by the way.) Umaga goes off the top rope with the splash. Shane then announces it is not a two-on-one handicap match after all. It is a three-on-one, and Vince McMahon comes out to get the pin.
Tomorrow night on ECW is Lashley vs. Umaga.
From the video package they just showed, I think the audience may be 50/50 for Cena and Michaels.
Matt Hardy - big pop - vs. Trevor Murdoch. "Let's Go Hardy" chant! Hardy loses to Trevor after his power bomb. He and Cade celebrate outside the ring.
They just promo'd Randy Orton vs. Edge. Surely that ain't going to happen.
Melina out next. Now Todd Grisham introduces Maria. Non-title match. Maria loses in no more than three minutes.
Carlito and Flair in a short promo. They are next.
The Great Khali comes out, they won't even show his entrance on television. He is up against Carlito. Some small cheers for Khali. Big pop for Carlito. Carlito loses in a few minutes. No major offense from him. Rumors in the row in front of us about Carlito being fired. Flair comes out to offer help, but Carlito refuses, Flair leaves a little down.
Mick Foley promo. He is in the back and does a cheap pop, then Edge interrupts the promo and thanks Mick for the kid's choice of main event at Backlash. Edge talks about how he is looking forward to Cena-Michaels. Seems weird that he is here for just a backstage bit. Also, no mention of the fight previously plugged on the Titantron - Edge vs. Randy Orton.
Michaels and Cena promo backstage. Cena points out the crowd respects Shawn and so does he, Shawn comes out for a the main event and gets a few boos. Cena gets loads of boos.
Obviously, the Randy-Edge graphic was an error, but they have not explained why Randy isn't on the show.
Crowd fifty-fifty in boos, Cena, it has to be said, is being cheered more. Very slow paced match. Almost losing an "up for it" crowd. Back and forth, real long match. HBK in control for a long spell and throws Cena into the ring post. Cena missed an FU, Michaels missed a superkick. Cena finally hit the FU, but Michaels kicked out. Cena then threw Michaels to the floor to loud boos. HBK kicked out of a leg drop from the top rope. Match has gone past a half hour now, and is getting better all the time. Shawn goes for piledriver on the outside steps, but it gets reversed. Michaels pins Cena after a missed FU and a superkick.
No run ins. Better part of an hour and the row behind us says it was better than the Wrestlemania match. Possibly the TV match of the year. Michaels picks up the belt, holds it up to Cena's face and holds it in the air (note, this was a non-title match). Crotch chops and that's it. Raw is over.
After cameras stop, HBK leaves to cheers and Cena leaves after some time and gets more boos and some clapping.
2008 - World Wrestling Entertainment officially confirmed creative team member Michael Hayes' 60 day suspension, several days after the story was broken on a PWInsider.com Elite Hotline.
In response to a query from gossip website TMZ.com, a WWE spokesperson commented, "Due to inappropriate behavior, Michael Hayes was suspended for 60 days with no pay. In order to return to work, Michael Hayes will be required to undergo further evaluation."

2010 - WWE broadcast Smackdown. Richard Trionfo filed the following TV report:
We start off with a look back at last week’s Triple Threat Match between Jack Swagger, Edge, and Chris Jericho for the World Title that was successfully defended by Jack Swagger when he pinned Chris Jericho after a spear by Edge. We also take a look at what Swagger and Jericho did to Edge after the match.

We begin this week’s show with Jack Swagger coming to the ring for our opening match.
Before the match, Swagger has something to say. He says that he is on a roll. Last week, he defeated two future first ballot WWE Hall of Famers. Edge a nine time World Champion and Chris Jericho, the man who calls himself the best at what he does. Jack says that makes him the best now. We are back and the cage is down and Chris Jericho makes his way to the ring with Wade Barrett. Jericho says that he wants to make it perfectly clear for the moronic hypocrites to understand. Jericho says that he is unequivocally going to end Edge’s career on Sunday. That means no more heroic comebacks, no more championship title reigns, and no more spears. Jericho tells the crowd to chant spear if they want because it will be the last time. Jericho says that he laid the groundwork by injuring Edge’s ankle that will lead to his greatest triumph and it will be inside the steel cage. He tells Edge that he does not know the lengths to which he will go to use the structure as a weapon. Maybe he will rake his face across the fence. Maybe he will bounce Edge’s face off the steel bar. Jericho points out that Edge probably cannot climb the cage, but he says that he can. Jericho suggests that he will climb to the top and jump off onto the ankle, crushing it and tearing the Achilles tendon for good to send him home. Jericho says that on Monday, Edge will be watching in bed to see himself being drafted back to the hospital where he has spent so much time over the last few years. The greatest part is that with Edge gone forever, the parasitic sycophants who call themselves Edge Heads will no longer be chanting ‘spear’, they will be chanting ‘Good Bye Edge’.
Edge’s music plays and he comes out and he stays on the stage. Edge says that Chris brought up a good point because Jericho injured his ankle last week. Edge says that a lot of people have asked him about the match on Sunday, but people have also asked how Jericho could have lost to Heath Slater, a rookie, on NXT. Edge says that he wants to be serious but a lot has been going through his head. Edge says that he is banged up, but nothing is going to stop him from getting into the steel cage on Sunday at Extreme Rules. Nothing is going to stop him from getting inside the cage right now. Edge makes his way to the ring and he walks into the cage. Edge tells Chris that Chris keeps saying how he is going to reinjure him. Edge says that he knows how to deal with an injury because he has been injured before. He knows what it takes to scrape and claw from the bottom of his gutsto get back up after an injury. Edge wants to know if Chris has ever done that. He wants to know if Chris is aware of what it takes to come back from a broken neck or torn Achilles tendon. Edge asks Jericho to look into his eyes to see if he has anything to lose. On Sunday, we may find out if Jericho has what it takes to scrape down into those guts to come back from an injury. Edge tells Jericho that he plans to find out on Sunday because nothing is going to stop him from spearing Jericho through the cage. Edge sys that he will do one better and nothing will stop him from spearing Jericho right now.
Edge attacks Jericho and Barrett, but Jericho goes after the ankle. Jericho triees to put Edge in the Walls of Jericho but Edge fights it off. Edge with the Edge-o-Matic to Barrett and then he has the look in his eyes for the SPEAR but Jericho goes through the door to the floor and then he closes the cage door. Edge slams Barrett’s head into the cage and then he punches Barrett. Edge sends Barrett into the cage and then the look comes back and it is time for a SPEAR on Barrett. 2012 - WWE broadcast Raw. Richard Trionfo filed the following TV report:
We are live from Detroit, Michigan and your announcers are Michael ‘Why are people asking me if I want to see Clarence Boddicker’ Cole and Jerry ‘I’d buy that for a dollar’ Lawler.
If we have a major pay per view match on Sunday, that must mean that it is time for a contract signing. We have the table set up in the ring and the pomp and circumstance surrounding this always calm and reserved moment is being restrained by John Laurinaitis because he would never overdo things. It looks like Teddy Long has a job this week because he gets to guard the table.
Teddy welcomes everyone to the contract signing and he brings out John Cena first. Out next is Brock Lesnar, but he looks a lot like John Laurinaitis. John tells Teddy that Brock is not here yet. John and Teddy argue and then John says that we will have the contract signing when Brock gets here on Brock’s terms.
John tells Teddy to tell Cena that he shouldn’t be in such a big hurry to sign the contract because this could be his last night on Raw so he should enjoy it. John tells Teddy to ask Cena to leave his ring.
Teddy asks Cena to leave the ring, but Teddy leaves instead.
John Laurinaitis welcomes everyone to People Power Raw but he is interrupted by Edge who makes his way to the ring.
Edge says that he is not supposed to be here and in a few days, he isn’t even under contract. Edge says that he came here to talk to John. He could do it privately but this will have more impact. He didn’t come to talk to this John Cena because he doesn’t know this John Cena.
Edge says that he came here to talk to the John Cena who was his greatest rival in this industry. He came to talk to the John Cena who when he slapped his father, came to his home town and beat him in a TLC Match. He wants the John Cena who chucked him in the Long Island Sound.
Was it the loss to the Rock that changed Cena? Andre after Hogan, Bret after the screwjob, and Rock after losing to Lesnar. Edge tells Cena that he cannot lose. He has to find that John Cena. With all of their differences, there is one similarity. That was how much they love this. More than anything else, they have wanted to do this.
Was this ‘it’ for Brock Lesnar? Does Brock give a damn about this? Does he give a damn about the fans? Only if they can line his pockets. Brock left for eight years while him and John carried the load. Edge tells John to wake up because if he doesn’t it is a slap to the face of everyone who cared. It is a slap to Shawn Michaels, the Undertaker, and him. Edge tells Cena to WAKE UP.
Edge says that he is not asking Cena to beat Brock, he is telling him.
We go to commercial with Cena thinking about what Edge just said.
