Shinsuke Nakamura may be one of the most talented Superstars in WWE today, but his win/loss record in 2024 certainly doesn't demonstrate his skills.
This year, Nakamura has competed in 40 matches across WWE programming and at untelevised live events. So far in 2024, Nakamura has won just one match, giving him an unfortunate 1-39 record, equivalent to winning just 2.5% of his matches. Nakamura's only victory of 2024 took place during the February 12, edition of WWE Monday Night Raw where he defeated Sami Zayn.
Cody Rhodes has proven to be Nakamura's biggest 'Kryptonite' so far when it comes to competing in the ring. The reigning Undisputed WWE Champion and Nakamura have faced off a total of 20 times in 2024 with the American Nightmare emerging victorious every single time. 17 of these matches have been off air, either in dark matches or live events. Two matches saw Rhodes win on Raw while the American Nightmare also bested Nakamura in the 2024 Men's Royal Rumble match.
This 1-39 record only highlights Nakamura's fall on WWE's main roster. Upon joining WWE SmackDown in 2017, the King of Strong Style was immediately presented as a top star, an attitude strengthened when he won the 2018 Men's Royal Rumble match. Against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 34 though, Nakamura failed to win the title and would similarly come up short in subsequent title opportunities.
In the years following, Nakamura's position in WWE made clear that he was not the top star fans once thought he would be. In 2023, Nakamura entered a high-profile feud with then-World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins that reignited hopes of a main event role. Despite multiple opportunities and Rollins nursing a severe spine injury, Nakamura still failed to get the job done, another sign of his fall from grace.
