WWE is facing an interesting time, as multiple superstars' contracts are either up for renewal or have expired. The company has several featured talents like Becky Lynch and Chad Gable, whose future with WWE is seemingly in limbo. A new report has revealed that WWE superstar Ricochet is another talent that the company is set to lose very soon.
PWinsider's Mike Johnson reports that Ricochet gave WWE his notice ahead of the expiration of his contract. His deal with the company ends this summer, and he has decided not to re-sign.
The high-flying superstar has been with WWE since 2018 and is currently featured on Monday Night Raw. Ricochet is involved in an ongoing storyline with Bron Breakker and Ilja Dragonov.
The former WWE Intercontinental Champion is also dealing with an injury in the storyline that has recently led to a few losses on TV. On the June 3 episode of Raw, he was swiftly defeated by Breakker with a devasting Spear.
While it seems WWE could have more to go with his feud against the new main roster talent, Johnson reports that the company plans to write Ricochet off soon before his exit. It's unclear if WWE may use his loss to Breakker to end his run or if they have another match planned for Ricochet.
Fans have wondered if WWE could involve all three superstars in a Triple Threat Match. Breakker will face Dragonov on the June 10 episode of Raw. It's possible the Raw matchup could lead to an announcement of a final contest between Breakker, Dragonov, and Ricochet as soon as Clash At The Castle on June 15.
This could be another opportunity to send off Ricochet before he tests free agency.
After the WWE veteran contract expires, he is likely to have several promotions that will try to sign Ricochet. While he could compete on the independent wrestling scene, fans expect All Elite Wrestling to be where he could join.
AEW has signed several former WWE superstars over the past few years and may be interested in having Ricochet on their roster. Ricochet also has a history with one of AEW's recent signees, Will Ospreay, with whom fans would like to see him feud again.
Ricochet's decision to test free agency will be another blow to WWE, as they hope to retain as many superstars from leaving this year.
