The WWE Universe was knocked on its heels Saturday evening when reports revealed that former Intercontinental Champion Ricochet had given WWE notice that he would be departing from the company once his current contract had expired this summer. Now, new information has arisen regarding WWE's ongoing plans to handle Ricochet's potential exit.

According to a report from Fightful Select, while nothing is official as of this writing, those within WWE believe there is a strong probability that the 35-year-old star will leave the company and join their rival promotion, All Elite Wrestling. Thus, WWE has begun instrumenting changes to formally remove Ricochet from current creative plans if that happens. One of these changes was having Ricochet drop his newly won Speed Championship to Andrade in a Speed taping following the June 6th edition of SmackDown.

The outlet also reports that one plan circulating to "effectively write off" Ricochet would be to have newly signed RAW Superstar Bron Breakker take him out. The two have been engaged in a minor feud for several weeks, starting with a backstage attack by Breakker last month. They recently went one-on-one on the June 3rd edition of Monday Night RAW, a bout that was more or less a showcase of Bron Breakker's physical prowess.

It should be noted that while Fightful Select and PWInsider's Mike Johnson seem confident in Ricochet's intention to leave WWE, Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer believes that things are much more "up in the air" than others have reported. This week's upcoming episode of Monday Night RAW will certainly be interesting to follow.

WWE first introduced the WWE Universe to Ricochet in 2018, when the Illinois native joined the company's developmental territory NXT. Richocet was anything but a rookie, starting his wrestling journey in 2003 and competing in a number of promotions throughout North America and Japan.

Wrestling under various names including: "King Ricochet", "Prince Puma", and "Helios", the highflying star won world championships in nearly every promotion he competed in.

During his time in NXT, Ricochet would eventually win the North American Championship, and win the finals of the 2019 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic with then WWE Superstar Aleister Black. A little more than a year following his debut for the Black & Gold brand, Richocet would be drafted to RAW in the 2019 "Superstar Shake-Up. In totality, Ricochet has a total of four championships, two tournaments, and a Slammy Award to his name since joining WWE.

One of Ricochet's most well-known rivalries outside of WWE was with current AEW International Champion Will Ospreay. While the duo had a series of great matches, their most famous took place under the What Culture Pro Wrestling banner in August 2017. In a recent interview, Ospreay discussed his battles with Ricochet and expressed his desire to see the former Speed Champion join All Elite Wrestling.

"I don't know how much longer he has got in his contract, but I think it might be up soon, man, I don't know. I want him to know that there are people here that genuinely appreciate his work and I want to wrestle him again. I want him back here."

One slight complication for Ricochet in a potential departure is that he would no longer be working with his real-life fiancée, Samantha Irvin. Irvin has become a star in her own right, as WWE's top ring announcer. While the two would most likely be fine working for separate companies, the former Prince Puma is certainly considering it when making his next decision.
