CM Punk made a surprising appearance at Clash at the Castle, interfering in the main event and costing Drew McIntyre the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in Scotland. The backstage events leading up to this moment have now been revealed.

In the closing moments of the match, McIntyre sent Damian Priest into the referee, knocking him against the barricade and out of commission. McIntyre then hit another Claymore on Priest, but with no referee to count, a new one ran to the ring. This referee stopped the count at two, revealing himself to be CM Punk in disguise.

McIntyre grabbed Punk by the throat, but Punk retaliated with a low blow. The original referee returned, allowing Priest to hit McIntyre with the South of Heaven for the win.

A new WWE video showed the backstage events during this time. CM Punk was watching the match closely on a monitor. Seeing his opportunity, he quickly asked Jessika Carr for a referee shirt, which she found for him just in time.

The video captured Punk putting on the shirt and running out to the ring, adding a layer of story continuity to the events.

The rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre is set to intensify on Monday. The upcoming episode of RAW promises to be very interesting.

When CM Punk returned during the closing moments of the 2023 Survivor Series in Chicago, Drew McIntyre had already left the WarGames ring, seemingly expecting Punk's comeback. Clearly displeased, McIntyre has since taken numerous shots at Punk for his departure eight years ago.

Punk's injury at the Royal Rumble disrupted plans for a WrestleMania match against Seth Rollins, delaying McIntyre's chance to confront Punk. Despite this, McIntyre has consistently trolled Punk whenever possible.

Although sidelined with a triceps injury, Punk's involvement at Clash at the Castle hints that a match with McIntyre could happen sooner rather than later.
