George Kittle sat ringside at WrestleMania 39 in Southern California in 2023 and got involved in a match featuring The Miz and Pat McAfee. Then he was informed not to do anything like that again.
The Mania appearance led to Kittle hitting a clothesline on The Miz outside of the ring. McAfee then dove from the top rope. McAfee won the match, and it was one of the most talked-about moments from the first night of WrestleMania 39.
That was quite a WrestleMania moment, but it didn’t sit well with everyone within the San Francisco 49ers organization.
The All-Pro tight end told ESPN that he received a text from general manager John Lynch about the appearance.
"Hope you had fun," Lynch’s text message read, according to Kittle. "Don't do that again."
Kittle may have violated a no-surprise rule. He told the outlet he didn’t tell the team he would be involved in a match physically, but thought that if he didn’t get hurt, there wouldn’t be an issue. He was wrong with that assumption.
Kittle made a surprise appearance at WrestleMania 39, teaming up with former Colts punter Pat McAfee against The Miz. This was the entire crux of his team's gripe against him.
McAfee, who was making an impromptu appearance of his own, challenged the event’s host to an official match, during which Kittle got involved. After Kittle was seen chirping at The Miz during his match with McAfee, the tight end proceeded to jump the barrier and clothesline the two-time WWE MVP.
McAfee then climbed to the top rope of the ring and dove headfirst at The Miz, before jumping up and celebrating with Kittle. McAfee's appearance was also a surprise, and Kittle's moment in the ring was the cherry on top of what was an epic night at WrestleMania 39. Sadly, the 49ers higher ups didn't appreciate the moment as much.
