John Cena has played his fair share of random movie characters from his recent role as an impersonator in Ricky Stanicky to an ex-special forces op in Freelance.

And in 2015, he portrayed one of Amy Schumer’s character’s flings in Trainwreck. Cena recently recalled an ‘awkward sex scene’ he had to film with his co-star that she was ‘very into’.

During the film, columnist Amy asks her gym bunny partner Steven (Cena) to ‘mix it up a little bit’ and to ‘talk dirty’. But he struggles with this and promises to ‘fill you with protein’ and ‘put my green drink in you’.

The hilarious scene escalates as he throws out phrases in Mandarin - but apparently it was just as cringe to film as it is to watch.

Cena told the Club Shay Shay podcast: “Amy is an angel, she made the environment so comfortable, and then when I got the part, eventually they were like, 'Yeah, it's a sex scene. We want you to do elaborate and crazy stunt sex, and all those lines you had?

"We're probably not going to use them, we're just going to do this stunt sex scene.”

While we might have gotten used to seeing the wrestler in the nude, he says filming a sex scene is ‘the worst’.

Pointing at the crew during the podcast recording, he said: “This is the thing — right now, you guys at home think it's just us. No, there's a whole f**king world back here,” before explaining there were even more on set of the film.

He continued: “There are so many people you need to make a movie. There is nothing intimate about it. Nothing.

“So it's real embarrassing, and on top of that, to do a comedic sex scene when you're making fun of yourself.”

He said having this whole audience on set watching him trying ‘to have the most awkward sex’ possible with Schumer doesn’t ‘suck’, but it’s ‘just different than you all think it is’.

And while Cena explained all this awkwardness of the iconic 2015 scene, the film’s star – who also wrote it - shared a reaction to her Instagram Stories.

The comedian joked: “John, how dare you?”

Sharing a broken heart in the caption, she said: “That sex scene meant a lot to me, and I was, like, very into it. And I’m in love with you.”
