LOTS OF WWE DEVELOPMENTAL NOTES & NEWS
WWE's developmental talents were all given a copy of Eddie Guerrero's autobiography last week and given the assignment of reading the book as well as being prepared to discuss it. This comes on the heels of a recent assignment where developmental talents were given a list of 100 historical figures from professional wrestling and were instructed to research and learn about them.
The recent assignments have been a Mike Bucci idea according to several, designed to give those breaking into the company an idea of appreciation and history for the industry. The feeling among the developmental talents is that those who were wrestling fans before breaking in are enjoying that aspect of learning while those with relatively no prior knowledge are having to work harder to play catchup. Morale overall among the developmental talents has been good, particularly in OVW.
There are a number of tryouts scheduled over the next few weeks as World Wrestling Entertainment plans to boost the current developmental ranks. The feeling is that there's been a slight dip in talent of late and while those who are under deals are working to learn and improve, there's strength in numbers by having a greater pool to choose from.
There will be a number of new talents reporting to the developmental territories after the New Year, including Claudio Castagnoli and several names from the Mid-Western independent scene that were recently singed to deals.
There's talk of putting DSW talent Ray Gordy into a full-time tag team with Henry Godwin on Smackdown. Gordy is the son of the late Terry Gordy. Daniel Rodimer is also said to be on the fast track for being brought up, likely on the Raw brand. The Untouchables in OVW (Deuce and Domino) are possible for a call up soon as well.
Beth Phoenix and Paul Burchill are currently in Ohio Valley Wrestling waiting for a call back to the main rosters. OVW is being overseen by Al Snow and Danny Davis. Jim Cornette still maintains an ownership stake in OVW but isn't involved with any of the creative or logistical ends of the company stemming from his WWE falout.
Bill DeMott and Jody Hamilton continue to oversee DSW in Georgia. There is a feeling by some talents that DeMott may overwork them physically, but from my outside point of view, when you are getting paid to train and improve, you know what you are getting into when you sign the contract. Some DSW talents will be sent on the road for house show evaluations after the holidays.
