RODDY PIPER TALKS ABOUT RIC FLAIR'S SUPPORT, DEALING WITH MR. T, WANTING TO FACE VINCE MCMAHON AT WRESTLEMANIA AND MORE

Mark Madden welcomes the legendary “Rowdy” Roddy Piper to his show on ESPN Radio 1250. Madden worked with Piper during their time in WCW.

Madden began the interview by saying without Piper there would be no WrestleMania, no Hulk Hogan. Piper sounded to be in great spirits.

Piper talked about his recent stint with Ric Flair as WWE Tag Team Champions. He talked about being in Scotland and not being able to move his legs and not being able to walk. He flew home to Oregon, and a potato chip size mass was removed from his spine, and was diagnosed with cancer. Piper states while it’s a rare case of lymphoma, it was caught early enough for him to fight a successful battle.

Madden asked Piper what it was like to work with Flair again after all these years, and Piper said the first thing he did was order a new liver. Piper openly talks of his love for Flair, his dear friend. He said he receives text messages every day from Flair telling him to not give up.

Piper talks about wanting to work WrestleMania 23 against none other than Vince McMahon...for free. The conversation turns to the original WrestleMania, and Piper’s mutual dislike for Mr. T. Piper talks about Mr. T’s work ethic, and his refusal to do things the right way. He does credit Hulk Hogan for straightening up Mr. T prior to the event. Piper says he tried to have fun with Mr. T and joke with him, but he didn’t realize he wasn’t allowed to touch Mr. T. He said he made sure Mr. T learned how to wrestle.

The talk turns to Piper’s new DVD, “Born to Controversy.” Piper says while he has only watched the first disc, he is amazed at the level of production and how it turned out. Piper and Madden exchanged more pleasantries, and Piper wished Madden a happy holiday. Piper closed by saying the next time Madden interviews him, he won’t need the radio airwaves, because Piper now glows in the dark. All in all, nothing very informative, just a feel good story of Piper’s fight against a horrible disease.
