World Wrestling Entertainment this afternoon announced that Arnold Skaaland has passed away.
Skaaland, known as “Golden Boy” throughout his career, worked for the McMahon family for many years. After he finished as a wrestler, Skaaland worked for the (then) WWF’s front office for a number of years.
Skaaland, who was inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame in 1994, was perhaps best known for his role as a manager rather than a wrestler. He was the manager of both Bob Backlund and Bruno Sammartino during their title reigns in the company, and many will remember him for throwing in the towel while managing Backlund in a title match against The Iron Sheik.
Skaaland passed away on Tuesday afternoon with his wife, Betty, by his side. He was aged 82.
