Janet Jackson was exposed during a routine with Justin Timberlake
US singer Justin Timberlake has been denied official recognition in his home state of Tennessee because of the racy titles of some of his songs.

Republican senator Raymond Finney removed the proposal after colleagues drew attention to tracks including SexyBack and Rock Your Body.

"It's not something I want my name on," said the politician.

Ophelia Ford introduced the proposal to honour Timberlake for his "meritorious service to the state of Tennessee".

The senator also proposed to honour the pop star for "his highly successful music career".

Text message

Senator Finney is expecting to receive unanimous support for his resolution to block Timberlake's honour.

The four-time Grammy award winner was infamously involved in Janet Jackson's "wardbrobe malfunction" during the half-time entertainment at the 2004 Super Bowl, which prompted 500,000 complaints from viewers.

Timberlake, whose second solo album is called FutureSex/LoveSounds, comes from the small town of Millington, near Memphis in Tennessee.

The Tennessean newspaper reported that Senator Finney objected to the measure after Senate speaker Ron Ramsey mentioned that his daughter sent him a text message saying how much she liked Timberlake.

The Senate's Democrat leader Jim Kyle said he did not know why the proposal had been opposed.

"Maybe Raymond Finney is a huge Janet Jackson fan, and he's never forgiven him for that incident at the Super Bowl," he added.
