Sometime within the last two hours, word came down that World Wrestling Entertainment has changed gears and will not run the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City after all.
As noted earlier today, WWE had planned to run a matinee ECW/Smackdown house show there on 6/10 as they had booked the venue for the ECW One Night Stand PPV that was later moved to Jacksonville, Florida. Those house show plans were dropped during the course of the day today.
WWE were originally going to run the venue in order to make good on the deposit they had put down, but it now appears they will just let that go and consider the whole thing a wash.
New York City fans shouldn't despair as the company will be running Raw and Smackdown this August in Madison Square Garden, while Ring of Honor returns to the Manhattan Center on 5/12.
