Smackdown Results - 14th Apr 2006

Show:

We see the ring where there is a regal chair, robe, scepter, and crown for the King of the Ring. Kurt Angle faces Randy Orton in the first round match. Booker T and Sharmell come to the ring and Sharmell has the restraining order with her. Booker and Sharmell comment on the King of the Ring attire. He asks if the crowd feels it. That is the feeling that you get when there is no Boogeyman around. No more worms or smoke. He got a restraining order and now Smackdown is a Boogeyman Free Zone. Booker says that all of his bad luck is gone. Last week, Teddy Long wanted to play games with him and wanted to cost him money against a new guy. Booker cannot remember his opponent and Sharmell says Gunner something. Booker says that will never happen again because he is great. Booker says that he will prove it at the King of the Ring. That is a tournament with a lot of great superstars and made a lot of careers. Careers like Bret Hart, Steve Austin, and the list goes on and on. The throne is a seat of greatness and this year, eight superstars will compete to become the King of the Ring. Those superstars are Kurt Angle, Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley, Matt Hardy, Fit Finlay, Mark Henry, Chris Benoit, and the ‘Five Time WCW Champion’ Booker T. Booker asks what the other seven superstars have in common. They cannot hold a candle to Booker. Booker was born to be royalty, to sit on the throne, to wear the crown, and to be the king. Booker says that there is nobody in the tournament who can beat him. Booker asks all of his subjects to rise and bow down to their next king. He asks if the fans can dig that. Booker tries on the robe and he likes it. He also puts on the crown and then he ‘knights’ everyone with the scepter. From out of nowhere, Bobby Lashley spears Booker T and then Lashley leaves the ring while Sharmell checks on Booker and we go to commercial.


Brian Kendrick vs. Johnny Nitro
Referee: Nick Patrick

The start:
Nitro with a knee and forearms to Kendrick. Kendrick with two flying forearms, but Nitro gets to the apron. Nitro with a shoulder on the apron and then Kendrick tries to suplex back into the ring, but Nitro floats over and Nitro throws Kendrick into the second rope and gets a two count. Nitro with a cobra clutch and then Nitro throws Kendrick out of the ring. Mercury holds Kendrick for Melina to slap Kendrick.

Mid-match notes:
London comes over to get Mercury to let go of Kendrick. Nitro with an Irish whip following by a running knee into the corner. Nitro with shoulders to Kendrick and then Nitro does a ballet-like move, but Kendrick moves out of the way when Nitro tries a move into the corner. Kendrick goes to the apron and hits a springboard missile drop kick followed by a flying forearm and back body drop. Kendrick with a jawbreaker to Nitro and then he hits a running forearm on Mercury that knocks Joey off the apron. Kendrick with a jumping leg lariat and then he goes up top, but Mercury pushes Kendrick off, but Nitro only gets a two count.

The Finish:
A blue flash comes across the screen as Paul London hits a suicide dive on Mercury. Nitro tries to slam Kendrick, but Brian floats out of the hold. Kendrick tries for a rollup off the ropes, but Melina gets on the apron and Nitro knocks Melina to the floor. Nitro checks on Melina and that allows Kendrick to get on Nitro’s shoulders and he gets a rollup from the electric chair position for the three count.

Winner: Brian Kendrick

The Aftermath:
After the match, Kendrick and London celebrate to the back while Melina tries to talk to Nitro and Mercury.


Backstage:
Burchill is walking in the halls and he knocks on the door to find out if Lady Regal, his buxom wench is ready. Burchill opens the door and he laughs at Regal’s appearance. Regal says that it isn’t funny because he is a serious competitor. His shoes are killing him and his knickers are going right up his selection box. He calls Burchill a filthy rotten swine. We go to commercial.

In the arena:
Paul Burchill gets on the mic and he introduces the most beautiful woman since Queen Elizabeth. He brings out his ‘buxom wench’ Lady Regal. Regal swings out and he falls to the ground. Burchill holds the ropes for ‘Lady Regal’. Burchill gets his sword and chases Regal around the ring. Cole mentions that Regal has to stay dressed this way until Burchill loses.


Paul Burchill vs. Rasheed Brown
Referee: Chris Kay

The match:
Brown pushes Burchill off on a collar and elbow tie up. Burchill with a forearm and side head lock. Burchill with a knee and then he tosses Brown to the mat. Brown with a rake of the eyes followed by punches to the back. Regal gets on the apron, but Burchill sends Brown into the ropes and Regal gets knocked off. Burchill ‘walks the plank’ and gets the three count.

Winner: Paul Burchill

The Aftermath:
After the match, Burchill tells Regal to take his arm as they walk to the back.


Backstage:
Kristal is in the interview area with Kurt Angle. Kurt says that he wants to congratulate Rey Mysterio. He lost the title in a Triple Threat match at Wrestlemania because of Randy Orton. Kurt says that he will show Randy how much that title meant to him because he is going to take out all of his rage and frustrations on Orton. We go to commercial.


Matt Hardy vs. The Road Warrior
Referee: Mike Posey

The match:
Hardy goes out after Animal, but Animal runs Hardy’s back into the apron twice and then he sends Hardy into the ring post. Animal punches Hardy and then he slaps Hardy. Animal gets a chair while Hardy gets back into the ring. Hardy punches Animal and then the referee calls for the bell to start the match. Hardy with a Twist of Fate for the three count.

Winner: Matt Hardy


Public Service Announcement:
We are back and Palmer Canon says that the following antics from Mike Mizanin are not endorsed by the network or any of its affiliates.

The Reality Check:
We see Mike Mizanin working out at the gym at the WWE Headquarters. We also see Mike pulling a number of things that he did at the WWE Headquarters. Mike says it is time to deal with the Smackdown brand. The Miz is coming to Smackdown.


United States Championship Match
Chris Benoit vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (c)
Referee: Nick Patrick

Before the match begins, Teddy Long comes out and he tells Benoit and Bradshaw that before the match starts, he has made a change. The United States Title match will be held inside a steel cage and the only way to win is by pinfall, submission, or escaping the cage. Teddy wants the cage lowered and it is time for the ‘official cage lowering music’. We go to footage from Wrestlemania when Bradshaw won the United States Title from Benoit.

The start:
Benoit kicks Bradshaw followed by punches and forearms and kicks. Benoit with more punches and kicks to Bradshaw’s head. Bradshaw blocks a shot into the cage, but Benoit with knees and forearms to Bradshaw. Bradshaw punches Benoit, but Benoit fires back with forearms. Bradshaw with a shoulder tackle and he climbs to the top of the cage, but Benoit pulls Bradshaw back into the cage. Benoit and Bradshaw are on the top rope and Benoit with chops to Bradshaw’s head and Bradshaw falls to the mat.

Mid-match notes:
Bradshaw pulls Benoit back into the ring with a belly-to-back suplex. Bradshaw with a swinging neck breaker and then he tries to climb the cage again, but Benoit pulls him back down to the mat. Benoit with a chop to Bradshaw and Bradshaw falls to the mat and he cowers to avoid Benoit. Benoit with a snap suplex and then he tries to put Bradshaw in the sharpshooter, but Bradshaw powers out. Bradshaw with a clothesline to Benoit followed by elbow drops to Benoit and Bradshaw gets a one count. Bradshaw backs Benoit into the corner and he punches Benoit. Bradshaw tries to climb the cage again, but Benoit with a forearm to Bradshaw’s back followed by knees to Bradshaw’s head and a forearm. Benoit chops Bradshaw. Bradshaw with a thumb to the eye and Bradshaw tries to climb the cage again. Benoit climbs the cage as well and Benoit with forearms and head butts to Bradshaw.

Bradshaw pushes Benoit off the top rope to the mat. Bradshaw with a suplex and he tries for the Three Amigos, but Benoit blocks it after the second one. Benoit tries for a sharpshooter, but Bradshaw is able to avoid it and Bradshaw kicks Benoit in the head followed by punches. Benoit tries to get the Crippler Crossface locked in, but Bradshaw is able to avoid it. Benoit with head butts followed by a snap suplex into the Three Amigos vertical suplex combination. Benoit signals that it is over and Benoit goes up top and hits a diving head butt from the top turnbuckle. Benoit climbs the cage and he gets to the top, but Bradshaw with forearms to Benoit’s back and then Bradshaw brings Benoit to the top rope and Bradshaw with a side Russian leg sweep from the top rope and both men are down as we go to commercial. We are back and Benoit with head butts to Bradshaw and then Benoit tries to climb the cage one more time. Bradshaw grabs Benoit’s leg and he gets Benoit in an electric chair and hits the electric chair drop and both men are down. Bradshaw covers Benoit and gets a two count. Benoit with a forearm and then he comes off the ropes, but Bradshaw with a sleeper.

Benoit tries to get to the ropes, but Benoit cannot reach them. The referee checks on Benoit’s arm, but he gets it up when the referee checks the third time. Benoit gets to his feet and he hits a belly-to-back suplex to escape the hold. Bradshaw kicks Benoit in the head and tries for a short arm clothesline, but Benoit ducks it and he hits two rolling German suplexes, but Bradshaw blocks the one for the hat trick and then Benoit comes off the ropes into a big boot. Bradshaw climbs the turnbuckles and he almost gets to the top of the cage. Benoit tries for a German suplex from the top turnbuckle, but Bradshaw holds on to the cage. Benoit with head butts to Bradshaw and Benoit hits the German suplex from the top turnbuckle and both men are down. The door to the cage is opened and Benoit crawls to the door, but Jillian Hall gets to the door. Bradshaw pulls Benoit back into the ring and Bradshaw was about to escape the cage.

The Finish:
Jillian does not notice that Bradshaw is at the door and Jillian closes the door into Bradshaw’s head. Benoit puts Bradshaw in the Crippler Crossface, but Jillian distracts the referee when Bradshaw taps. Bradshaw with a rollup for a two count and both men are still down. Bradshaw rolls towards the door, but Benoit picks up Bradshaw and tries for a German suplex, but Bradshaw with a low kick to Benoit when the ref was distracted. Bradshaw escapes the cage. We go to commercial.

Winner and still United States Champion: John Bradshaw Layfield


In the arena:
Tony Chimmel is in the ring and he asks everyone to give a warm Green Bay welcome as Daivari brings out the Great Khali. Daivari has a mic and he says that for sixteen years, the fans have called the Undertaker the ‘phenom’. The Undertaker is no more. He says that standing before them is the real phenomenon because the Great Khali is over seven feet tall. He weighs 420 pounds. The Great Khali has walked through the jungles of the Punjab in India, unafraid of pythons and white Bengal tigers. The Great Khali has stared into the abyss and the Earth trembled at his gaze. Khali speaks. Daivari says that you will fear the Great Khali and you will worship the Great Khali. We go to commercial.


The Mexicools vs. The Gymini
Referee: Chris Kay

Mexicools music hits, and they make their way to the ring on some new ride mowers. Same style, only these ones are white and yellow. Simon Dean then comes to the ring with Gymini. They now have names, Jesse and Jake.

The start:
Psicosis and Jesse start things off and Jesse with a knee and then he puts Psicosis on the ropes and pushes Psicosis to the floor. Jesse pushes Crazy over the tractor before he rolls Psicosis back into the ring. Jesse with knees to Psicosis followed by kicks. Jake tags in and they hit a double suplex. Jake gets a two count. Jake with a slam and then he knocks Crazy off the apron.

Mid-match notes:
Jake and Jesse toss Psicosis into the air and Jake with a two count broken up by Crazy. Jesse tags back in and he punches Psicosis. Jesse with a slam to Psicosis and then he goes to the second turnbuckle, but is met by a boot. Jesse misses an elbow and Crazy tags in and he hits a missile drop kick followed by a regular drop kick to Jesse. Crazy with a springboard drop kick to Jake that sends Jake to the floor.

The Finish:
Crazy ducks under Jesse and hits a baseball slide on Jake. Jesse with a punch to Crazy followed by an Irish whip. Crazy moves out of the way on a charge and then he hits a tornado DDT. Jake makes the save on the cover and then he switches with Jesse and hits an overhead head and arm suplex on Crazy for the three count.

Winners: The Gymini


Next Week:
Next week, Booker T will face Matt Hardy in a first round match.


King Of The Ring Tournament
First Round Match
Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton
Referee: Jim Korderas

The start:
Orton goes to the ropes when Angle tries to lock up. Angle tries to lock up again, but Orton makes it to the ropes again. The ref tries to separate Orton and Angle and Orton punches Angle in the head. Angle with clotheslines followed by an Irish whip. Orton with an elbow and he charges at Angle, but Angle with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex and Angle clotheslines Orton over the top rope to the floor. Angle goes out after Orton and rolls him back into the ring.

Mid-match notes:
Angle gets Orton in the ankle lock, but Orton rolls through and Angle goes into the ring post. Orton works on Angle’s arm and stretches it. Orton kicks Angle and then wraps Angle’s arm in the ropes. Angle with an arm bar and arm wringer into a wrist lock and arm bar. Angle with an escape followed by a punch. Orton with a sunset flip, but Angle rolls through into an ankle lock. Orton with a kick to Angle’s arm followed by a drop kick for a two count. Orton with a knee to Angle’s arm followed by an arm bar. Orton with a side head lock, but Angle gets to his feet and punches Orton. Orton with a back elbow to Angle’s arm followed by Divorce Court for a two count. Orton with a top wrist lock into a key lock. Angle gets to his feet and he punches Orton followed by a European uppercut. Orton tosses Angle over the top rope to the floor when Angle charges at Orton. Angle returns to the apron and Orton tries to suplex Angle into the ring, but Angle blocks it and he suplexes Orton to the floor and Angle returns to the ring.

The Finish:
Orton rolls back in and he tries to punch Angle, but Kurt ducks it and he hits the Three Rivers German suplex combination and the straps are down. Angle tries for the Angle slam, but Orton escapes the hold and counters with a back breaker for a two count. Orton prepares for the RKO, but Angle counters and he puts Orton in the ankle lock and Angle grape vines the leg. Orton taps.

Winner: Kurt Angle

The Aftermath:
After the match, Angle refuses to release the hold and Orton holds his ankle. Angle puts Orton back in the ankle lock and he grape vines the leg again. Angle refuses to let go of the hold until the referee pulls him off. Angle leave the ring and Orton holds his ankle. Angle returns to the ring and he puts Orton in the ankle lock one more time and he grape vines the leg again. More referees come to the ring to get Angle off Orton. Orton holds his ankle as we go to credits.
