One longtime friend of Steve Austin had this to say after speaking to him recently: "Austin doesn't care for Hogan. I would go so far as to say he despises him. Also, Austin won't go in there and bump around. Hogan wants to drop a leg on Steve. They both think they're WWE's biggest star. Austin has pride. Hogan's public comments (during media interviews downplaying Austin's run on top) got to the bone. He won't do the match just to spite Hogan because Hogan wants it so bad."

"Hogan would do it in a second. It's up to Austin now. It will take some work to get them on the same page." Says another.

Both sources believe the one way that the match could ever happen is if Hogan agrees to job to the stunner, however as we saw with the Hogan/HBK negotiations for Summerslam, it can take a long time to work things out with him. "If Hogan wants the match bad enough, he's got to agree to that," says one source.

A friend of Hogan says that Hogan would consider jobbing to Austin, as he believes he could win the crowd over anyways as he did with The Rock. However others believe that with Austin being much more experienced than The Rock, it would be a much tougher battle.

Austin, along with Bret Hart, ignored Hogan completely at WWE’s Hall Of Fame ceremony, as revenge for Hogan doing it to Bret in the 90s. At one point Hogan went up to congratulate Hart in front of everyone, however they both just walked by him and, as Bret said in a recent interview, “[Hogan] walked away with his tail between his legs.”
