Smackdown & ECW House Show Results - 6 May
House show results from may 7th ECW/Smackdown event at Binghamton New York.
Before the show starts Chimmel announces that he Undertaker wont be there
despite being advertised. Lashley wasn't there either or Snitsky even
though they were supposed to fight. But they didn't announce that, not
that their absence particularly bothered me. Refunds were offered to
anyone who left before the second match was over. I think this kid behind
me with a Mohawk literally cried about it.
RVD vs Marcus Cor Von in an "ECW Extreme Rules Match".
Big pop for RVD who did the R-V-D thumb thing about 6 times during the
match. The crowd acted like Cor Von had never wrestled on their TVs
before.
lots of the usual chair play you would expect from Van Dam no rolling
thunder though. He did that sick spinning leg drop from the ring apron
onto the guardrail and I felt the impact. At one point I managed to get
Cor Von to look at me and threaten to kick my ass. Apparently making fun
of his ring attire is off limits because thats what finaly got him. He
works well with the crowd around the ring and could draw some real heat if
he gets a little spot light. match went about 10 minutes and was loads of
fun.
Winner RVD by pinfall following 5-Star frog splash.
Mark Henry vs Jimmy Wang Yang and Funaki w/ some little kid as his "guest
manager" in a handicap match
The crowd sort of popped for henry which seemed strange but I think it was
just because they were surprised he was there. they didn't say who the
little kid was that came out with Funaki but Wang gave him his hat and
vest. I imagine it was a make a wish deal or something. This was a
surprisingly fun match. Lots selling the cruiserweights being scared early
on but the match sped up quickly. Henry caught Funaki off the top rope
doing a cross body and turned it into a worlds strongest slam. he also
caught Yang doing a moonsault and turned that into an Oklahoma slam. with
all that sweat I cant believe he didn't slip and drop either of them by
accident. Am I the only one thats grossed out by Mark Henry's constant
sweating? Match went really quick but was effective. Henry looks the same
in the ring as he always has.
Winner Mark Henry by pinfall on Funaki following Worlds Strongest Slam
Jillian vs Michelle McCool Krystal is the Special Guest ref
Jillian comes out to sing and everyone wants her to die, especially me.
Michelle comes down in the middle of the "song" and takes Jillian out.
This was a surprisingly good match for me. Personally I tend to change the
channel during diva matches but this one wasn't half bad. Post match
Jillian gets in an argument with Krystal and Krystal hits her with a
shockingly well performed spinning head scissor take down. Deff didn't see
that coming. Glad I didn't go for a beer.
Winner Michelle McCool by pinfall following a spinning sidewalk slam
backbreaker
London & Kendrick vs Deuce & Domino vs Regal & Taylor in a triple threat
Tag Championship match
This Match was fun but it was a mess. Lots of heat on regal for some
reason. These fans ringside rocking a ridiculous amount of ROH gear were
taunting London & Kendrick about their lame gimmick and at one point
Kendrick honestly spit on them; no joke. Any who, Match was ok with D&D
hitting the hard offense, R&T stalling a lot and doing a lot of mat work,
and L&K doing the high flying spiel. Cherry pushed Kendrick off the top
rope right at the end.
Winner D&D following a roll up by Deuce on Kendrick
Tshirt Gun/intermission
Boogeyman vs The Miz
The Miz came out and the ringside marks tore him up. People hate the Miz.
I think he has a cool story to his career personally but I can see where
the heat comes from. He talked about how great he is and how he's not
scared of anything. Cue Boogeyman. The Miz of course is visibly scared.
There was about 5 minutes of stalling followed by about 2 minutes of
"wrestling" I like both these guys but they just need to learn to work a
match. Post match Boogeyman saw this kid in a spider man mask at ring side
and acted scared and ran as fast as he could to that back. Funny bit. You
suck chants were really really loud as Miz left.
Winner Boogeyman by pinfall following a Chokebomb
C.M. Punk vs Elijah Burk
This was a great match. Burk demanded to be reintroduced as the leader of
the NewBreed and he was. C.M. punk got a huge ovation. I think its amazing
how he appeals to the indy fanbase and all that, And how he is adored by
the little kids at the same time. I don't really know anyone who doesn't
like punk. His heel turn will be epic if they hold it off for a few years.
And Burk is great too. amazing on the mic and really getting better and
better in the ring. some day this could be a main event feud. too bad
neither of them uses steroids(sigh) Burk did a funny bit where he would
leave the ring every time Punk kicked him and complained to the ref that
it was against the rules. I don't know why but every time he turned to the
ref and cried "make him stop! Its not fair!" I cracked up. the match was a
good 10-12 minutes and I guess this was the ECW main event.
winner C.M. Punk by pinfall following a Go To Sleep
Batista, Benoit and Kane vs MVP, Kennedy and Finlay in a 6 man tag
This was the Main event that we literally saw here in Binghamton last year
substituting Kane for Taker and MVP for Booker and I think Benoit for Rey.
I would have preferred a strong singles match or the triple threat that
was advertised with Batista Kennedy and Taker(obviously not Taker but you
know what I mean) but what are ya gonna do? lots of stalling figuring out
who would start the match. My roommate who loves Kennedy and MVP yelled "I
love you guys you're why I still watch Smackdown!" and they both turned
around and stared for a few seconds before MVP just quietly said "I hate
you" which cracked us both up. MVP also legit yelled at a guy for cursing
around a bunch of little kids. He seems like a classy dude which is cool.
the match went for about 15 minutes and everyone got in about everything
you would expect. Kane was way over. Batista was the most over as you
would expect but not by all that much. Benoit, not so much. The heat was
mixed for everyone. Hornswoggle came out and Kane scared him off. But he
Hulked up and came into the ring to take Kane on which got a huge pop.
Kane got on his knees and goozled him before MVP broke it up. funny stuff.
Match ended with the faces running a train on Finlay. Spine buster, diving
head butt, chokeslam, 1,2,3. would have liked to see more of Kennedy.
winner Batista, Benoit, and Kane by pinfall Kane on Finlay following a
chokeslam
All in all I was happy. I would have liked another match maybe a ECW tag
with Sabu and Sandman who I was stoked to see. Oh and Matt Hardy would
have been awesome too. At one point the mic was left on during a match and
everyone could sort of hear Tony Chimmel messing around with a roadie at
ringside it was weird. Chimmel has great chemistry with a lot of the
wrestlers. A lot better than T. Long who's painfully awkward. Smack Down
needs a good heel so bad and I hope Henry isn't the long term plan
Best match: Punk/Burke
worst match: Miz/Boogeyman
Biggest pop: Batista/Punk
Biggest heat: Miz wins but when people got into the Henry match he was a
close second
CM Punk and Burke learn to steal the show while Kendrick spits on angry fans.
