Anglican Church Challenges 'Da Vinci Code'
Anglican Church leaders in Sydney, Australia, are attempting to educate cinemagoers when The Da Vinci Code is released later this month, by screening their own mini-movie in cinemas. The 20-second clip will tell "the truth about Jesus," contradicting the Ron Howard film's suggestion that Jesus Christ has living descendants, and will be shown in 250 cinemas when The Da Vinci Code is released. The Da Vinci Code, which stars Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou and was written by best-selling author Dan Brown, has sparked widespread concern among Christian leaders who are convinced it will "mislead people about the truth." Bishop Robert Forsyth, chairman of Anglican Media Sydney, says, "We are not afraid of the film. We are not seeking to discourage people from seeing it. But we are well aware of the power popular films have in filling the information void about Jesus." Church spokesman Allan Dowthwaite adds, "The concept for the cinema advert was to engage with the same questions raised by The Da Vinci Code, but then also ask how Jesus himself might respond to these claims."
